We spend Christmas lunch at Highway Hotel, just a table for two , best location next to a windows, the welcome party ? exceptional greeting with a welcome drink and canapes, the food couldn’t fault it, yummy especially dessert. The staff is so happy , best service..well done to all, this is our third time doing Christmas lunch at Highway hotel, the best ever.. our present scented candle , so beautiful , makes my house smell wonderful..well done to all from front door to kitchen staff , great team work

Just had the absolute best roast lamb shank ever. So delicious. Had calamari for lunch the day before and it was also a great. Both times service was great, meal was timely. The staff here are always amazing, friendly and helpful. Shout out to Chris and Zion… You guys rock!

***A update*** Went back to the Highway hotel, ordered Calamari again and chicken this time, meal was perfect and can’t speak highly enough of staff member, Jack. Great, attentive service, thanks so much for making this right, we’re back on the 16th for lunch with family. Cheers and Merry Christmas ?

Just had dinner, ordered calamari + steak sandwich. Calamari came right out, was delicious, however the steak sandwich sat and sat and sat under the “warmer” with the overworked staff walking right past it at least 4 times. We could see it from our seat. Consequently the chips were cold and the bread on the steak sandwich was mediocre. A dedicated staff member to deliver food at busy times is a must. Very mediocre.

Lovely spot right on the beach. Very friendly, helpful service, good menu. Food is not the greatest, but view more than made up for it.

Beautiful place to rest and break for lunch between Margeret River and Perth. Cafe overlooks the ocean and beach… I enjoyed that calamari the best, shrimp and fish were good. However, they ran out of draught beer

Please save yourself some time, and look for another establishment to have your meal.

My partner and I had a disappointing time. The lovely woman who served us made sure we got served quickly, and the waitress who brought our meal was apologetic and kind. When we asked for some cutlery, she was a bit scared and panicked- it wasn’t busy either, so there wasn’t much of a rush for her to be in (though our meal did take a whole hour to arrive, and it had been clear it was sitting there waiting to be delivered for a while)

Reading some of the other reviews, I can definitely agree with what they say in terms of meal wait time, miserable staff, and poor quality food for a less then tolerable price.

Working in hospitality myself, I can understand the environment and it’s easy for me to observe certain points- and it was clear to me that the staff were overworked (poor woman that served us was rushing about, making coffees and serving while there are four other girls in the back).

My partner ordered a vanilla milkshake and by the time we received it, it had separated- leaving the syrup at the bottom. It was as if they did the milk, and added the pumps in after that which is not the correct way to make a milkshake in any establishment. The ice for my drink was all melted and was half water when I received it. Pancakes had been cold, and they were heavily dry- I finished my drink before I even got through one of them.

The environment is lovely, and the breeze is pleasant. I really enjoyed the aesthetic of the backyard ocean tavern approach and it works well with the beach being right in front of the cafe. Unfortunately I think this is the only good thing about this cafe- aside from the staff! While overworked and stressed, they did their best.

Great spot and on the beach! Food portions were big and tasted pretty good. The only problem is the ordering from the bar, there was always a long queue of people waiting to order, it would be more convenient with a QR code table ordering system.

The food was delicious and well prepared.
The wait staff were fantastic.
The what seemed to be the manager (tall, solid build, grey beard, male) ruined our experience when he had a go at his staff in front of customers and then has a verbal argument with an unhappy customer at the front door in front of many other customers.
