Nice spacious zoo. Give yourselves at least 3 hours for a good sight-seeing walk. We were fortunate the weather is good, so we ended up seeing almost all animals, some sheltering under a shade.

I just wished they made the fences better. Most of the poles and fences are blocking the view, but we like how you can be really close to some animals, so I guess that’s alright.

Zoo is clean, you can see the staff are passionate about what they are doing.

Overall, we enjoyed our visit and definitely recommend visiting.

We (couple) enjoyed our trip to the Zoo and stayed a good four hours looking around and reading all the info. (It’s not just for kids, Adults need to keep learning too!) It’s great you can bring your own food and have a picnic. We also loved having the ice cream truck halfway through our wonder, prices and portion size was value for money (Boxing Day was hot). All facilities are clean and every path, garden and enclosure if well maintained and cared for (thanks to the staff) Note: There are quite a few steep paths to walk however there are quite a few seats along the way for those who will need to have a little break. Great day!

I worked as a Zoo Keeper at Hamilton Zoo back in 2000, but haven’t been back for over a decade.

The Zoo was always a lovely visit in terms of the animals and their enclosures. It has only improved over time with an impressive entrance + cafe, the upgraded play space for kids, and some wonderful landscaping.

Love this place we went on a Wednesday not many people so we can see every Animal at our own pace, environment are awesome very well maintained and also love staff, we have a zoo keeper walk passed us at the rhino place and he stop and explain a lot to us. At the end of the trip we get to the main playground my 3 years old have so much fun in the playground that she don’t want to leave.

      Will go visit again soon.

A great zoo with such friendly keepers. Talks are available and face to face encounters. Enclosures are big enough that it feels like the animals are free to act natural. Recommend allowing 2-3 hours to see it all. More if you want rest and lunch at the cafe.

Christchurch (; Māori: Ōtautahi) is the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand and the seat of the Canterbury Region. Christchurch lies on the South Island's east coast, just north of Banks Peninsula on Pegasus Bay. The Avon River (Ōtākaro) flows through the centre of the city, with an urban park along its banks.
The city's territorial authority population is 396,200 people, and includes a number of smaller urban areas as well as rural areas. The population of the urban area is 384,800 people. Christchurch is the second-largest city by urban area population in New Zealand, after Auckland. It is the major urban area of an emerging sub-region known as Greater Christchurch. Notable smaller urban areas within this sub-region include Rangiora and Kaiapoi in Waimakariri District, north of the Waimakariri River, and Rolleston and Lincoln in Selwyn District to the south.
The first inhabitants migrated to the area sometime between 1000 and 1250 AD. They hunted moa, which led to the birds' extinction by 1450, and destroyed much of the mataī and tōtara forest. The first iwi to settle the area that would later become known as Christchurch were the Waitaha, who migrated to the area in the 16th century. They were followed later by the Kāti Māmoe, who conquered the Waitaha. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the Ngāi Tahu migrated to the area and subjugated the Kāti Māmoe. Over time the Ngāi Tahu tribe would develop a large pā based around Kaiapoi, which was a major centre for the trade of pounamu.Christchurch became a city by Royal Charter on 31 July 1856, making it officially the oldest established city in New Zealand. The Canterbury Association, which settled the Canterbury Plains, named the city after Christ Church, Oxford. The new settlement was laid out in a grid pattern centred on Cathedral Square; during the 19th century there were few barriers to the rapid growth of the urban area, except for the Pacific to the east and the Port Hills to the south. Agriculture is the historic mainstay of Christchurch's economy. The early presence of the University of Canterbury and the heritage of the city's academic institutions in association with local businesses has fostered a number of technology-based industries. Christchurch is one of five Antarctic gateway cities, hosting Antarctic support bases for several nations. The city suffered a series of earthquakes between September 2010 and January 2012, with the most destructive occurring at 12.51 p.m. on 22 February 2011, in which 185 people were killed and thousands of buildings across the city suffered severe damage, with a few central city buildings collapsing. By late 2013, 1,500 buildings in the city had been demolished, leading to ongoing recovery and rebuilding projects. The city later became the site of a terrorist attack targeting two mosques on 15 March 2019, in which 51 people were killed, and which was described by the Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, as "one of New Zealand's darkest days".

Beautiful place to spend half a day. It is a big zize zoo in natural habitat. There is a lot of walking to do if you want a close-up look at animals. The shuttle is nice, but you can’t see much from it. Will be nice if the stops are longer to allow you to jump off, see the animals for 5-10min, then jump on and go to the next stop. During the visit, it was impossible to spot some animals like the tiger or some big apes because the building door was locked or they were hiding somewhere. It will be nice to be possible to see them. Otherwise, it’s a great encounter, and if the weather is good, it will be a great day.

Holy cow, my kids (and myself) absolutely loved this place. Lions and tigers and keas, OH MY! Seriously though it was great. We got there at around 2:30 on Sunday Dec 31 and had the place to ourselves it felt like. We fed the giraffes. Saw the kiwi. Had a blast. Obviously you didn’t come all the way to New Zealand for a zoo. However, we did this on our last day and thought it was wonderful.

Great Wildlife Centre with a really impressive variety of animals. The enclosures all look pretty good and the animals are healthy. I like the fact they offer an adoption box system to help contribute to the long term welfare of the animals and the upkeep of the grounds etc. Even though it was very busy when we visited it didn’t feel crowded at all, and it’s very cool that they offer a little hop on hop off cart that drives around the whole park for those who don’t want to walk far. Would happily visit again.

Its a huge zoo, great experience! Though it was hot at 26° today and was a long queue, it moves fast and feeding the giraffes is fun and exciting.. The lions are healthy, the gorillas are aloof and adorable, lol.. Plenty of parking and picnic tables. The toilets need frequent check as it was dirty on peak summer season.

Beautiful place to look for wonderful animals and birds. This is the only safari based zoo in NZ. You get to see lions, tigers, giraffe, gorilla and more. Nice Cafe and souvenir shop. Free parking at the premises. Family pass for 2 adults and 3 children for $91 is a good deal.

Napier ( NAY-pee-ər; Māori: Ahuriri) is a city on the eastern coast of the North Island of New Zealand and the seat of the Hawke's Bay region. It is a beachside city with a seaport, known for its sunny climate, esplanade lined with Norfolk pines, and extensive Art Deco architecture. Napier is sometimes referred to as the "Nice of the Pacific", although that is largely outdated and a more common nickname is 'The Art Deco Capital of the world'.
The population of Napier is about 67,500 as of June 2023. About 18 km (11 mi) south of Napier is the inland city of Hastings. These two neighbouring cities are often called "The Bay Cities" or "The Twin Cities" of New Zealand, with the two cities and the surrounding towns of Havelock North and Clive having a combined population of 136,290. The City of Napier has a land area of 106 km2 (41 sq mi) and a population density of 540.0 per square kilometre.
Napier is the nexus of the largest wool centre in the Southern Hemisphere, and it has the primary export seaport for northeastern New Zealand – which is the largest producer of apples, pears, and stone fruit in New Zealand. The Hawke's Bay wine region is now the second largest in New Zealand after Marlborough, and grapes grown around Hastings and Napier are sent through the Port of Napier for export. Large amounts of sheep's wool, frozen meat, wood pulp, and timber also pass through Napier annually for export. Smaller amounts of these materials are shipped via road and railway to the large metropolitan areas of New Zealand itself, such as Auckland, Wellington and Hamilton.
Napier is a popular tourist city, with a unique concentration of 1930s Art Deco, and to a lesser extent Spanish Mission, architecture, built after much of the city was razed in the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake. It also has one of the most photographed tourist attractions in the country, a statue of the figure in local Ngāti Kahungunu mythology, Pania, on Marine Parade, Pania of the Reef. Thousands of people flock to Napier every February for the Tremains Art Deco Weekend event, a celebration of its Art Deco heritage and history. Other notable tourist events attracting many outsiders to the region annually include F.A.W.C! Food and Wine Classic events, and the Mission Estate Concert at Mission Estate Winery in the suburb of Taradale.

The staff are nice but I personally thought the tanks were too small for the large fish and lobsters. Even the octopus tank looked too small for such a big, intelligent creature. There’s no toilet and they don’t accept foreign cards or even have pay wave option.

If you want to get up close and personal with some of the amazing sea creatures, then check this place. Located along the seashore of Island bay, Wellington. The staff were amazing and accommodating. Kids and Kids at heart will surely enjoy this place. If you are lucky, you might witness the Octopus feeding session. The entrance fee is cheaper than your coffee.

Kelly Tarlton's Sea Life Aquarium (formerly Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World) is a public aquarium opened in 1985 in Auckland, New Zealand. Located at 23 Tamaki Drive, it was the brainchild of New Zealand marine archaeologist and diver Kelly Tarlton (1937–1985).Built in disused sewage storage tanks, the aquarium used a new form of acrylic shaping, which allowed curved tunnels rather than viewing areas with flat panels only, as in previous aquariums. The project was also one of the first to use moving walkways for people to travel slowly through the viewing areas.

Great morning out. It is a small aquarium with a circular indoor tank area, small touch tank and outdoor turtle area, but we loved it. Spent about 2hrs here, the more you looked in the tanks the more cool things to see. Staff very knowledgeable and friendly. Loved patting the turtles and everyone got a chance to feed them.

Nice aquarium, a bit small but that’s ok. You can see some fish inside and outside you can see the 3 big sea turtles. One of them came really close and you were able to pet him ? During the feeding session they told the story behind the turtles. (You can leave and come back during the day).

Came here with my two kids while staying at Hervey Bay. It’s a small aquarium but has a lot to occupy time for 2-3hrs. Kids fed and stroked the sea turtles, there was a touch area to stroke starfish, and tanks to investigate. Kids had a wonderful time and we left with a necklace each to remember their time there.

Great place to visit. Friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Great selection of interesting fish and we got to feed turtles. Ticket lasts all day so we were able to come back to watch fish feeding in the afternoon. Plus they have good food and coffee and a function centre.

This was a GREAT experience for the family and so affordanble. We only paid Adult $22 and Child $12 plus it included feeding of the animals. Most other parks you have to pay extra ontop of entry to feed animals. There we’re not hordes of people and everybody got several turns. Its a small park but so informative and interactive for kids!

Beautiful little zoo. It is free, clean, and well put together. I got the chance to pet one of their dingo rescues that they happened to have out for a walk. Found a couple critters here that we didn’t see anywhere else. It is in a great location attached to the park right on the river. Definitely worth checking out.

Came here for breakfast a while ago and loved it… So, this time I thought I would give lunch a whirl. So glad I did. Amazing atmosphere and lovely food. Good serving size at a reasonable price. Today was Pear and Bacon salad, and their Club Sandwich (chicken, Bacon, avocado etc). Both were flavoursome and an enjoyment to eat. Service was friendly and efficient as well. Nice place for a Friday lunch (or any day to be honest) ?

Great botanic gardens laid out all along the lagoon, so green! Good birdwatching (Jacanas, 100 Plumed Whistling Ducks, 130 Magpie Geese, Cotton Pygmy Geese, Drongos, etc). Interesting to see how much it has established in just 20 years. And the cafe is fabulous looking out over the lagoon and surrounded by greenery, great coffee, lovely pear salad, best ricotta cheesecake and lamington cake. I can see why they’ve won cake prizes in the Mackay Show! (Just note google busy-times for cafe, there was a 1h wait on lunch orders at 12:30 Sunday, and most tables full, so we just walked the gardens for 45mins til it cleared).

Great little zoo with a good variety of native and other animals and surprisingly, it’s free to enter! High quality exhibits and enough here to keep you entertained for a good hour or so. Great for kids since they can get up close with many of the animals (crocodiles excluded of course ?) Give a gold coin or two as a donation if you can to help keep the place running. Well worth the stop if you’re in the area.

This place is amazing. I can’t believe it’s free?!? There are plenty of animals to watch, and the gardens are lovely. Hand Sanny available and park maps too. The only down point for me was if you want the Loo, you’d need to walk to the cafe down the hill.

The best thing about the zoo is that it is free if charge and the opening hours are very long. The animal are mostly of the common species, however they are in comfortable. The animals has many things to eat, there are signage for you to read. It’s very interesting as there are zoo keepers will talk to you about the animals. Do give a donation to the people.
