Pros and Cons of Shopping at Woolworth

Woolworths and traditional markets both offer different shopping experiences that cater to different needs and preferences. Here are some pros and cons to consider when choosing between the two:

    Woolworth:

    • Pros:
    • – Convenience: Woolworths stores are typically located in easily accessible areas, making it convenient for shoppers to visit.
    • – Wide variety: Woolworths offers a wide range of products, including groceries, clothing, household items, and electronics, providing shoppers with one-stop shopping convenience.
    • – Quality assurance: Woolworths often offers branded products, ensuring a certain level of quality for shoppers.
    • – Online shopping: Woolworths also provides the option for shoppers to purchase items online and have them delivered to their doorstep, saving time and effort.
    • Cons:
    • – Higher prices: Compared to traditional markets, Woolworths products are generally priced higher due to factors such as branding and convenience.
    • – Limited bargaining: Shoppers may not have the opportunity to negotiate prices or bargain with sellers as they would in traditional markets.
    • – Less personal interaction: The shopping experience at Woolworths may lack the personal interaction and connection that can be found in traditional markets.

    Traditional market:

    • Pros:
    • – Lower prices: Traditional markets often offer products at lower prices compared to Woolworth, as they usually source directly from producers or wholesalers.
    • – Bargaining opportunities: Shoppers can negotiate prices or bargain with sellers, potentially obtaining better deals.
    • – Fresh and local products: Traditional markets are known for offering a variety of fresh and locally sourced products, allowing shoppers to support local businesses and enjoy a unique shopping experience.
    • – Personal interaction: Shoppers can directly communicate with sellers, forming connections and gaining insights about the products they are purchasing.
    • Cons:
    • – Limited variety: Traditional markets may have a limited range of products compared to larger stores like Woolworth.
    • – Inconvenience: Traditional markets are often located in specific areas, requiring shoppers to travel to reach them.
    • – Time-consuming: Shopping at traditional markets can be more time-consuming due to the need to visit multiple stalls or vendors to find everything on your shopping list.

Ultimately, the choice between Woolworths and traditional markets depends on personal preferences, budget, and shopping needs. While Woolworths offers convenience, a wide variety, and quality assurance, traditional markets provide lower prices, bargaining opportunities, fresh and local products, and personal interaction.

The best you could say about this store is its convenience. The store is so poorly stocked especially fruit and vegetable department. Seafood not any better. Treated very rudely by a certain member of staff without any real resolution in spite of involving management. Will not be returning to this store any time soon.

My visits here are usually short and sweet. As they are close to home, and have almost everything I need. They always have happy, helpful staff. And prices are always pretty competitive

Staff are friendly and helpful but I hate coming here. I often am not able to find everything on my shopping list and have gotten stuck in the parking about 5 times because the gates don’t work properly. With people waiting in a cue behind me I’ve had to buzz for help and eventually I am let out. You’d think someone would do something about that.

Nice, Big and New. Had lots to choose from, a variety of meats that I don’t usually see and liked the fact that they had ready to eat nibbles (pies etc) and fresh made sushi. Was pretty impressed I guess being brand new definitely helps. Parking was ample and easy access and egress.

Modern, Spacious and Large Woolworths at Southport Park Shopping Centre.

Great Variety of Fruit & Veg, Meat, Bakery Items Dairy & General Grocery Lines.

Only 2 Stars as There was Just One Register Open !! With MANY Customers Waiting !!
How Can a Large Store, Such as This Justify Only Having ONE Register Open ?? Especially When So Many Customers Are Waiting ??

Two staff members, blonde older ladies, who were in the produce department, I asked one where something was, she gave me attitude and said “in the produce section.” I’d already been wandering around the produce section for about ten minutes trying to find said item as this is not my local store and I was very unfamiliar with the layout. The item ended up being in the very far corner. I asked the second lady a separate question about 5 minutes later only to be greeted with the same attitude. It made me not want to ask other staff any questions and I left with much less items than I wanted.

The lady at checkout was my only positive experience with staff.

Really deserves 0 stars. Like many reviews, the service at this place is terrible.

Danny Lee , who works at the fresh product section gets annoyed when customers check the quality of the fruit. Apparently customers need to get his permission to do that? What a joke lol.

As I was confused by his random outburst…he became more aggressive and confrontational, at one point, he got so close to my face like he wanted to fight me.

The entire time, spilling diatribe about all the fruit & vege being the same quality and customers should seek his permission before picking them up to check the quality.

The incident was forwarded to the front desk, because the store manager said she was too busy to come out. It was then forward to Woolworths head office, and as expected, it was a waste of time.

      Really awful experience.

Lady manager – Learn some manners. You dont need to shout if someone is buying grocery just at 9. You should have comfirmed with staff first whom I asked and she said yes I can get Tomatoes. Its not that big crime. Go get some life. Learn management later.

They have an incredibly wide variety of items.
      – Outdoor, shaded parking.
      – Wheelchair friendly.
      – Toilets are located in the shopping centre down a corridor next to the optometrist.

Food Court – Clean spacious and not like a big open canteen area – broken up well into spaces and has a licensed area ! Great design full of light – only tried one food outlet which was nice so can’t comment on the others – love the Woolworths on the bottom floor and connection through Hay St and St George’s Terrace- Woolworths – good one – separate sushi counter and Japanese dishes in fast cooked food I have not seen before – quick – lots of self serve – one of the nicer ones across Australia that I have seen

There were lots of itemised tags with prices on but we could not get a few things on the racks because they were all gone. Indeed a very good supermarket at a very good strategical location that had attracted a high volume of visitors. The lesson learned is never to shop in this market on a very late afternoon. Pretty good, try and go during midday as it starts to get busier around 2:30pm to 7ish ? re parking.
Some good smaller eateries & Cafe, chemist, hairdresser, mobile shop
Doesn’t have a great selection of Manchester, but good fresh food.
Staff are pretty friendly and helpful.

In an entire mega Woolies, during peak checkout time, there was exactly ONE, yes ONE, person on checkout.
Self checkout is not viable for some. Woolies can you do better than this. Lash out a couple of dollars on checkout staff and clear the queue.

Woolworths Rosenthal, Is a great supermarket they have all you need and the staff there are great, if you aren’t familiar with where things are and you want a particular product, they will happily assist you and find what you are looking for not only that if you have a walking stick or a Walker and you can’t search for what you need they will find that product and bring it right to you. Also if you don’t want to shop where there is a large crowd this is the supermarket is for you! I shop there myself and I have never had a bad experience. I give this store a thumbs up!

My local store so I’m there weekly, for the most part I’m happy with it but they really need to have more staff on checkouts to clear the lines faster, it takes longer than it should to shop.

Absolutely hopeless online team members! 3 times now they have not checked their freezer and I get home to find stuff is missing. And if you try and ring the store phone number outside 9-5 business hours it just rings out! Management really care about the customer experience!

Such a great convenient shopping centre. We were there late Sunday afternoon but the variety of shops this place has seems sufficient for the location.
And it has a great recycle program for coffee cups. Every shopping centre and coffee shop should have these!

Pathetic store! Won’t even honour the Woolworths Bricks promotion where another store is out of stock & advises you to take your receipt to them. Don’t bother!! They won’t give you any. So much for customer service & team work between stores! Doesn’t exist at Clifford Gardens

I had a very bad experience at this store. Never again will I go there. I ordered 2 of their platters for my sons birthday party. We got a message at 11:45am saying our order is ready to be picked up . Our selected pick up time was 12-1pm. When we arrived to collect our order it came out with only 1 platter and the rest of our order. Our other platter and our Main platter with thw wraps was not there. I asked the girl at the counter and to her reply there was only 1 platter in the cool room. She then checked with the girl how was handling the platters. Colleen was her name and she told me we picked that platter up earlier . No one came to get 1 platter and why would we collect 1 item from our whole order and before it’s ready time. I then asked the lady if she checked their order number and her reply was ,yes I’m not stupid . The customer service we experience was horrible! There eventually was 3 team Members behind the counter discussing the situation. They were all clueless given us no options what so ever . I ended up asking for a refund and asked who the store manager was , turns out the store manager was 1 of the 3 team members there the whole time . Such poor leadership skills. After I asked who the store manager was then she decided to give me a $20 gift card for the inconvenience. This was happening at 1pm and my sons party was at 3pm . I’m not happy about the mess up nor am I happy with the customer service.

LOTS of bare shelves at 6pm and open until 9pm!! Only went in for about twenty items and one third of my preferred brands were unavailable and some didn’t even have any alternative brand options at all! Staff at the deli and checkout were really friendly and professional but not a good experience.

An absolutely lovely lady staff member helped me find an item that I couldn’t. The wonderful part was she’d already finished her shift, but was still happy to help me out. Thank you. I didn’t realise she’d finished her shift. Prices on items I purchased were very reasonable. Majority of them were on sale. Yay.

Rude women named offer working their as a service manager stared us down waiting in line at check out for a good 5 minutes only to rudely tell us she can’t serve us because we had more then 15 items and the items were baby food and a couple bigger items. She is just a rude and lazy worker who should of told us while we were waiting in line but chose to waste our time glaring at us in line while I have a sick baby with me and then she seemed to take delight in rudely refusing to serve us. She should of told us when we were waiting but she was obviously hoping the worker beside her got us but got it was her that ended up with us she refused to serve us because she is to lazy to do her job. Don’t have someone who is rude with no customer service skills working as customer service manager! It’s ridiculous and I won’t return to a store that treats customers like this! Store manager probably won’t do nothing to improve her behaviour

Only 2 stars because of the extremely poor service. I had 20 items in my trolley, there was only one serviced checkout open with 3 people waiting, all the self serve checkouts were being used, there was no one at the 15 items or less with 3 staff. I asked if I could be served and was rudely told “No, you have too many items”. So I went to the only checkout with a staff member. It took me 20 minutes to get served. I kept my eye on the express lane and only 2 people were served while I was waiting. By the way it only took 2mins for the girl to serve me and that’s who gets the 2 stars. Definitely would not recommend this store.

I was shopping at woollies woodgrove today. My usual shop. I attempted to ask a staff member for help. I asked her 4 times she grumbled at me then come over. The price was clearly not on shelf. I told her this. Her reply it’s underneath the slabs. Omg I’m 60 how can I pick them all up. She then scanned the item and grumbled at me again. I said thankyou she said yeh. I’ve shopped here for years never had a problem

Paper bags currently issued are a joke, barely hold anything and the arse falls out of them so will use a trolley, no bags to take to the car and will clutter the car park with the trolley, usually one or two serviced registers open the rest is self serve, poor or no service means I leave the goods behind and go to Coles

Its crazy the cost of living these days, everyone needs the basics for necessities of life, Woolies didnt have much of the basic’s II required and understand that, maybe they could stock more considering the circumstances. I guess its like that everywhere but its so hard for struggling familes to find basics.

This canelands Woolworths is the best in Mackay. Well priced, well stocked, you can find most anything here.?
The only downside ☝if you’re on a mission and in a hurry choose your time carefully ?There are often not enough cashiers, and some cashiers are NOT in a hurry.
      Be patient…?

Treated like criminal when leaving store without buying anything. Young cashier stopped checking in an order and yelled across checkout for me to stop so he could rifle through my flat empty except for a wallet purse. How degrading. Seems theft must be a huge issue at this location. Will not be returning.

I was treated badly at this store all because she did not want to be serving with 6 people deep at the registers and the woman from the bakery chucked my fruit in the bags bruised my grapes and nectarines charged me $6.99 a kg for my $2.50 kg pears $20 fi a bag of pears!!! I will not be going back and the lack of service in this store is appalling.

In comparison to Coles the Woolworths, Woolies wins hands down. The layout always remains consistent, spacious and practical. It soothes my autism LOL…

      Think about it ….

Smaller bakery section on entry …when compared to Coles. However, that’s good since the food you’ll actually need has been placed front and center of you focus.

You walk in seeing exactly what you’re likely to need, you don’t rush to the fresh smell of bread and confectionery, you’re not tortured with luxury food items you probably now days can’t afford.

Woolies graciously utalises societal peer pressures to live healthy with the careful positioning of healthy vegetables in a really smart business move. Why not capitalise on something everyone must do, meal planning.

Meal planning with the cost of living has become a necessity. The customer thinking about the week apposed to what tickles their fancy in the immediate moments of shopping encourages a larger purchase.

If you walk into Coles your hit with the smell of fresh bread and a subliminal unconditional family love of grandma’s kitchen. But wait there’s more, think you narrowly escaped that ? Ha… your about to be slowly lulled into a false sense of security with the breakfast isle.

So you’ve reached the oats and dairy free milk and you’re feeling like your about to make some good breakfast decisions. Wrong again, it’s an ambush of half priced confectionery disguised as cereals lol…

By the time you army crawl through your self loathing about what you’ve placed in your trolly you see that vitamins are half priced. Thank heavens for that, because by the time you return back to the veg…

Admit it… You forgot half of what was originally on your shopping list, your now pushing the budget and the patience of your family. Your kids want to go home and your partner looks like they are about to file seperation papers because they found someone in the miscellaneous parent waiting bay. It’s the area you’ll find them standing before the check out, glancing down at all the refrigerated drinks and magazines and designated favourite child in tow with a loaf of bread. Couples without kids are free to just leave.
As for me, I’m not in Coles….I’m in Woolies…. LOL

Because Woolies capatilises on social norms and the economy of the everyday person, and not the fact I have unresolved emotional issues I like to avoid with chocolate.

Oh and if there’s an emergency there’s more room for me to menover around in a crowd of people. I can just wait as everyone panicks and stampedes eachother down…before walking out …

No I’m not sponsored, I know right ? Free service lol…your welcome … Oooh actually, I’ll hit two birds with one stone here… if you guys are hiring ….I’m your gal! ?

Went to collect an click and collect, waited 15 minutes for someone to come out to hand me my online order just to look thru it and find out some of my chilled items where missing, called the store and told them about it only to find out that three of my chilled bags where not given to me and where ” put in another fridge” as i was told. Then waited another ten minutes for her to come out with my bags. when I told the lady next to me about it I found out that they gave her someone else receipt and not hers. pretty disappointing if you ask me.

      Woolworths at Smithfield
      First Visited on 12/7/2022

This supermarket is different from many others; it has wide open frontage. Other than that, the store layout is similar to almost all Woolworths, with vegetables displayed at waist level on the right side of the store, frozen food on the left, and dairy and chilled products at rear end.

Overall, it is a clean and bright store.

Although I am technologically savvy, I still like to go through the staffed checkout. My wife is in queue, while I stand at the front end of the counter, ready to help in packing. The staff was chatty when serving the customer in front of my wife. However, my wife receives not even a Hello from the same staff. I wonder she suffers from split personality disorder.

After my wife has paid for the groceries, there is not a word of “thank you” or “have a nice day” from the staff. I can stand no more, and ask rather cheekily, “have you lost your smile today?”

She does not expect this and is taken aback. She gives me a big grin. I have marked down the rating for such service, and I hope the management take note of this to provide better training, and improve PR. After all, Coles is at the other end of the shopping centre.

It’s pretty awful how the staff that are stocking and sorting out the online orders treat the regular customers.
I understand they have their job to do but the pushyness and pure lack of respect is sad.

I do my click and collect here at least once a week. They usually have everything I need. Jade who works in click and collect has got to be the nicest employee I’ve met when I collect my groceries. She always has a smile on her face and happy to help out. However, on occasion have had to call the store and alot of the times they don’t answer. Other then that a pretty good experience each week.
