The 0 Biggest Public Transportation in Auckland, New Zealand

Auckland’s public transportation system, known as Auckland Transport, offers a convenient and efficient way to travel around the city. With a comprehensive network of buses, trains, and ferries, Auckland Transport provides a wide range of options for commuters and visitors alike.

Auckland Transport is widely recognized for its reliability, affordability, and accessibility. The system is integrated with a variety of payment methods, including contactless cards and mobile apps, making it easy for users to pay for their travel. In addition, Auckland Transport offers a range of concessions and discounts for students, seniors, and low-income individuals.

Top Public Transportation in Auckland, New Zealand

Public transport in Auckland, the largest metropolitan area of New Zealand, consists of three modes: bus, train and ferry. Services are coordinated by Auckland Transport under the AT Metro brand. Waitematā railway station is the main transport hub.
Until the 1950s, Auckland was well served by public transport and had high levels of ridership. However, the dismantling of an extensive tram system in the 1950s, the decision by Stan Goosman to not electrify Auckland's rail network, and a focus of transport investment into a motorway system led to the collapse in both mode share and total trips. By the 1990s, Auckland had experienced one of the sharpest declines in public transport ridership in the world, with only 33 trips per capita per year.Since 2000, a greater focus has been placed on improving Auckland's public transport system through a series of projects and service improvements. Major improvements include the Waitematā railway station, the Northern Busway, the upgrade and electrification of the rail network and the introduction of integrated ticketing through the AT HOP Card. These efforts have led to sustained growth in ridership, particularly on the rail network. Between June 2005 and November 2017 total ridership increased from 51.3 million boardings per annum to 90.9 million.Despite those strong gains, the overall share of travel in Auckland by public transport is still quite low. At the 2013 census, around 8% of journeys to work were by public transport and per capita ridership in 2017 of around 55 boardings is still well below that of Wellington, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and most large Canadian cities.Auckland's rapid population growth means that improving the city's public transport system is a priority for Auckland Council and the New Zealand Government. Major improvements planned or underway include the City Rail Link, construction of the Eastern Busway between Panmure and Botany, and the proposed City Centre–Māngere Line, a light rail line between the city centre and Auckland Airport.

A lovely branch of ANZ Bank. The inside looks luxurious, and there’s a big café on the ground floor with plenty of seats where you can enjoy your coffee while having discussion with your banker or ANZ staff members. Staff members are friendly. This branch also where they often host their seminar in central Auckland.

Enjoy going to this place. With the fish market and the tasty fish and chips, the restaurants on the wharf, the kids play area, the water fountain and basket ball court, the greens, the walk to the city, the boats, the lifting bridge, the recycled shipping containers, the city view, there’s something for everyone.

I loved Auckland, and I especially loved walking along the water front from Queens Wharf through to St Marys Bay. The different bars and restaurants, the yacht basins were all good viewing. Our luck was in because the Volvo around world race teams were in. Around the Wynyard area there were some huge motor cruisers being cleaned and serviced for the season. The Cylo park was fun, though we did not see it when musical events were on. I loved that a bridge had been built so that you could get a high birds eye view of the cylos, and the play ground the other side.

Wynyard playground is on sand and includes kina spinners, monkey bars, giant shells to hide in and swings and you can easily walk to the playground in Daldy Street also.

There is a basketball half-court and a giant water feature which in summer makes a great place to paddle. can visit the fish market, watch the America’s Cup teams prepare for the upcoming races, enjoy one of the many eateries or explore the various playgrounds, splash parks and interactive play structures.

Take scooters or bikes along to explore more of Wynyard or a basketball to shoot some hoops. Currently (October 2020) the whole area is a hive of construction so an added bonus for those children who love things that go, diggers, cranes, trucks and the associated banging and crashing.

Very delicious and affordable Thai restaurant right in the luxurious/ fancy area of the harbor.

I ordered the panang hoo. Their panang is lighter/thinner curry panang with perfect taste and texture for me. Not super sweet neither.

Service was great and efficient and you have access to the harbor area and bars or ice cream shops just a block away.

We had a fantastic dining experience at this Thai Street. The tom yum goong, pad thai chicken, and golden money bags were absolutely delicious, leaving my taste buds thoroughly satisfied. The gaeng kiew whan had a great flavor, although it could have been a bit creamier. The service was prompt and attentive, enhancing the overall experience. The only minor drawback was the $1 charge for takeaway containers, which might deter some diners. Nevertheless, it’s undoubtedly a great place for a tasty meal.

This beach is simply gorgeous! It’s the perfect destination for a family outing. The sand is clean and the water is inviting. I highly recommend bringing a BBQ to enjoy a sunny day meal right by the sea. The atmosphere is relaxing and it’s great for kids to play around. Plus, the sunset views are breathtaking. Don’t forget sunscreen and perhaps a frisbee or volleyball for some fun activities. It’s an ideal spot for making lasting family memories.

Fantastic flat beach. Walk a mile or more! Video shot at low tide, at north end, near the river. No fees. Dogs are limited to the south end of the beach. Plenty of parking in several areas. The park provides toilets, changing rooms, grassy areas, camping, picnic tables, plenty of shade. Bring an umbrella for shade on the beach. (Update 2024) Note to less able-bodied: several of the beach access points have been washed out.

That picture was taking a couple weeks ago, Beautiful location excellent for the family, very safe. Very Long Beach never really seems to fill up. Also some excellent walks right down to the end of the beach.

Beautiful view, cool breeze, its is a good place for walking taking the kids for a day out during summer and hot day, alot of spaces for parking and trees for sitting under the shade and enjoy the view. Beautiful recommended. One of our favourite outgoing beach so far.
