The park also contains a serious aspect of its work and exhibits, and behind the scenes includes a state-of-the-art veterinary and rehabilitation hospital. The sanctuary was opened as the Currumbin Bird Sanctuary by Alex Griffiths in 1947 as a scheme to stop the local lorikeet population destroying his flower plantations. The lorikeets still flock to the sanctuary twice daily to be fed by visitors. The sanctuary now houses one of the largest collections of Australian native species in the world. Exhibits include Tasmanian devils, a reptile house and in December 2017 the sanctuary opened their new exotics precinct Lost Valley which is home to lemurs, red pandas, capybara, cotton-top tamarins, tree kangaroos and one of largest walk-through aviary in the Southern Hemisphere with free flying birds. The sanctuary also has a miniature railway that has been operating since 1964. In May 2011, the hospital has appealed for donations and government support as it faces a funding shortage that may force it to turn away injured wildlife.

      Pretty wild and rough, which is good for wildlife lovers. I found loads of bird species, some kangaroo and other plenty of others that I could hear but just didn’t have enough time to stop and find.

      The trails are not clearly marked, so you’ll have to use landmarks to remember which way you came in.

      The Mount Taylor Nature Reserve is beautiful, with panoramic views of Woden Valley to the north, the Tuggeranong Valley to the south and the Brindabella Range to the west (I’m sure there’s something to the east too).

      Named after James Taylor – not the guy who sings ‘Fire and Rain’, but a squatter, who with his partner Robert Johnson established a sheep run on the Molonglo River in the early 1800s (thanks to Dave’s ACT blog for this info)

      There are several ways to get to the top, and as you make your way up, don’t forget to pause to catch your breath (necessary in parts) and perhaps catch sight of some kangaroos, and a variety of birds and reptiles.

      Your heart will certainly be pumping by the time you reach the top. However, if you are looking for a little more, someone has gaffa taped a piece of wood on the cross beam to make chin-ups more comfortable.

      Finally, don’t forget to bring water. There is a bowl for the dogs, but not for the humans. Although I’ve lobbied for a cafe/ice-cream shop at the top for years, my calls have gone unanswered.

      Mount Taylor is one of the famous landmark of Canberra. The walking trail consists of multiple routes with steep and rocky path. You can walk up-to the hill with Kangaroos on your side.

      Came across this wonderful reserve today and so glad we did. It’s beautifully maintained, with many walking tracks, sheltered seating areas, alongside BBQ areas, clean restrooms & various shelters that you can book in advance. The well constructed walkways take you amongst the trees, where you can see an amazing variety of animals. At the pond, we stopped and were thrilled to see many tortoises, trying to camouflage themselves amongst the underwater habitat. There is also a well constructed playground with lots of tactile activities for the kids. A perfect spot for the whole family! ???

      What a great area, always drove past to/from work but never knew what it was. Great for kids parties, large grass area, playground and BBQ areas. Parking is $14 for the day but entry to see animals is free so well worth it. Also lots of bushwalks, get amongst it!

      Good place to take the whole family with play ground, walking trails, electric barbecues, park benches and tables, paid under cover shelter and even a kiosk (closed when we visited on a Tuesday). Nicely maintained and kept clean. Entry is free but there are parking metres out in the parking lot with minum fee of $5. There’s a duck pond located just after the well maintained lawn near the entrance with peacocks and wild turkeys roaming the grounds even out in the car park area. In the enclosed animal enclosures there are wallabies, kangaroos and emus.

      The last time I had been here was close to a decade ago. The amount of effort put in to upgrade the facilities and cleanup the water quality in the main pond is phenomenal. Highly recommend this place for eating a takeaway lunch or just quiet contemplation during the week. Not so quiet on weekends or holidays.

      Very disappointed. Took an injured bird that had flown into our apartment. The lady at reception took it to the vet. I was filling out the paperwork when she returned and i asked how it was she said the vet had put it down. She was so rude would think twice about doing that again. I have an annual subsciption and have done the same for 2 grandchildren. Will think twice before renewing

      I donate money everytime I go to the sanctuary and as a lover of animals I am very disappointed and angry. Recently called to get assistance and I was denied as it was a “council” issue when it involved the lives of animals. It was a life or death situation that also involved baby animals as well. Very disappointing and I will not be giving anymore money if they can’t be bothered to help animals which is literally what they are all about.

      Great Wildlife park off the main touristy track. Easy access from the main road with parking available on the street leading up to the park. The staff were very friendly. Arrive early if you want to get pictures holding a Koala as the spots fill up quickly. Fairly steep incline in some areas which involve a bit of climbing/descending. A great selection of animals given the smaller size of the park. Very well maintained and excellent value for money given the price of other similar sized wildlife parks. Definitely recommend if you are in the area.

      One of the best place I’ve ever been. Animals are very well taken care of and are very well relaxed!

      We didn’t book the hug the koala in advance so we missed out. However there is a photo opportunity with the koala for the public so it’s not too bad.

      The Gorge Conservation Park is an incredible destination! The diversity of animals offer a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with nature. Having drinking water and hand washing facilities conveniently placed throughout the park reflects a thoughtful approach to for comfort and hygiene. An amazing cafe with reasonable prices is always a bonus and also to relax and enjoy some good food. The availability of picnic spaces and a great outdoor BBQ area adds to the allure of the park, offering us multiple options to enjoy our time outdoors. Reasonable ticket prices make it accessible and overall, it is a wonderful place to spend time, whether it’s for a day out with family, a peaceful picnic, or simply to immerse oneself in nature’s beauty.

      Absolutely love this place. The new upgrades look amazing, and the staff are super friendly, patient and welcoming! (Thanks for your wonderful customer service Sam)

      If you want a reasonably priced day out , then head to this place. Cost $90 for 2 Adults and 4 kids aged over 3, we took our own lunch/snacks and drinks and spent a good 3.5hrs. Lots of picnic spots, and places to sit along the way for tired legs to take a break or shady spots for a mum to BF. Toilets were clean, enclosures look beautifully kept.

      Only down side is the koala holds sell out quick, so book ahead, but the bonus is you can still have a photo and pat for free.

      Can’t wait to come back, we saw a mum & son doing a meerkat experience, which is something we would love to do next time.

      The best place to take doggos in the Perth area, period. Massive grassed areas for the ball chasers, little beach and river for the swimmers, plenty of shade for the sitters. Bbq areas, fenced playground, plenty of poop bins, coffee van, gazebos, paths, jetty. This is our pooches happy place. Been coming since they were pups and never had an issue with other dogs or people. We visit 3-5 times a week, despite the 25 minute drive.

      A MUST VISIT PLACE FOR PEACE AND TRANQUILITY Beautiful place to visit and take a slow walk along the pathway thru the Bird Sanctuary whilst listening to all the sounds you can hear, from running water/streams to birds and other wild life. There is a carpark just off Guildford Road where you can park and you can walk all the way thru the bird sanctuary to Riverside Gardens which is all within.

      Very beautiful area with lots of curious subjects who don’t mind getting their photo taken! Had to be very still and silent for the duckling photo! Worth it! The cheeky galah photo is still my most fav capture to this day!

      I had the most amazing experience at the Daisy Hill Koala Sanctuary! ? This place is a true gem, and I can’t recommend it enough.

      I appreciate how well curated and maintained everything is. it features plenty of picnic areas, paths through the forest and amenities like parking and washrooms. the entrance is FREE and it’s perfect to bri g your kids, as they have kid friendly learning areas. currently it hold 3 koalas, 2 females and one male, that have been rescued.

      If you are a MTB or walker or want to take horses, dogs and children somewhere special, this is it. Picnic and BBQ areas follow sign for koala sanctuary. Great flowing trail mostly blue and green. Awesome fun.

      What a gorgeous spot with towering gum trees, quiet spot to do some forest bathing and plenty of picnic space. There are walks amongst the trees, large space for kids to run around and good toilet facilities. Located next door to the koala centre which offers free viewing of koalas. The only issue I had, was with the walking trails which I felt could be better mapped and marked out making the start of them easier to find – but I have a terrible sense of direction.

      Very beautiful zoo tucked into the more rural side of Melbourne. Highlight was a picture and petting the koala Cyclops. But also seeing the kangaroos and wallabies jump and roam freely was nice.

      Other than the two highlights the zoo was quite boring. And expensive for what you get. I understand the money goes to conserving these precious species but the zoo was just really small and not much to get lost and do.

      They should do more with the nature they offer. Like eucalyptus tree tour, plantings, product making sessions or something. And maybe create more spaces where the visitors can feel at the center of the animals they are visiting in a peaceful way. Just some suggestions to improve but it was nice overall.

      One of my favourite places to visit in VIC. We have come here multiple times before, but yesterday was a special highlight as it was our first private night tour.

      I always enjoy going to Moonlit Sanctuary but with many of the animals being nocturnal, it is a different experience starting a tour around dusk. For instance, it was my first time seeing a Tasmanian Devil run around (being excited about receiving his food soon) instead of sleeping in its burrow during the day. By the same token, it was fantastic to see the Koalas more active than they normally are during the day and of course my personal highlight of any visit is always the chance to get up close and feed the wallabies and kangaroos. But it was also my first time really getting close to Feathertailed Gliders , which are super cute and unbelievably soft.

      Finally, I’d like to thank our guide Claudia, who was fantastic. She provided a lot of insights on the Sanctuary and the different animals and allowed us ample time to view and/or get close to the wildlife.

      Overall, I can definitely and wholeheartedly recommend a visit to Moonlit Sanctuary be it during the day or at night, but if you’ve got the chance, go for one of their night tours.

      Went there with my wife, 15 year old nephew and 15 month old granddaughter. There were no booking fees when you don’t book online. Ample parking on arrival. You can buy food for kangaroos and wallabies, but we chose not to. Be aware that if you want to attend presentations you will need to pay an additional $25 each. I didn’t realise this but we opted out of this offer. It’s a smallish venue with a range of indigenous wildlife. Pleasant walk and places to have picnics. A cafe next to the souvenier shop. It’s very child friendly. The kangaroos, wallabies and ducks look forward to being fed. Other creatures are confined to enclosures.

      It was fun!! There are lots of interesting animals to see and experience options. They also offer many shows each hour. Staff were nice. The tickets are also affordable and worth the experience. I recommend visiting early in the morning or night when the animals are active ?

      I appreciate the existence of WILDLIFE Sydney Zoo as a conservation center conveniently located in the heart of the city. It provides an excellent opportunity for people to discover and learn about native animals. While I believe the animals are well-fed and cared for, I couldn’t help but notice that some seemed quite stressed and lonely.

      Understanding the limitations of space, especially in a city setting, I think it would benefit the animals, particularly the kangaroos, to have more greenery. Maybe it’s just me, but I felt like the tree kangaroo, might appreciate some company rather than being alone. The overall experience did not evoke the wholesome feeling I had at Australia Zoo, where the animals seemed to lead content lives.

      I also noticed that the presence of numerous screaming and running children may contribute to the stress of some animals. It would be helpful to have staff assisting and educating visitors, especially parents, on appropriate behavior around the exhibits. To be honest, the noisy and unruly behavior of many children was a big reason why I didn’t enjoy my visit. It was a bit bothersome, and some intervention to address the situation would have been helpful. It’s not just about our enjoyment; it’s also important for the animals to live in a peaceful environment.

      While I felt the ticket price might be on the higher side, I understand that it contributes to the well-being of the animals, which ultimately makes me happy. In the end, my primary concern is for the happiness of everyone, particularly the animals, as I genuinely love them and hate to see them suffer in any way.

      The Zoo Keepers really knew their charges. Both Owen and I were very impressed with the outlay of the facility being in the middle of a city the animals did not look cramped, unwell, harassed, and they looked very calm during our visit the staff was friendly informative. the facility was clean and the animals are actually out for display even though it was 45°C Today I would suggest this as a good place to visit. It doesn’t take long to go through and it’s easy to arrive there.

      I love this place, they have so many cool animals, they have spiders, snakes, kangaroos, koalas, Tasmanian devils, wombats, crocodiles, cute mouses, the most dangerous bird in the world, lizards and many more. The venue is well maintained, you can book online so you don’t need to line up at the front. A general entry ticket cost A$48 but check for deals on their website. The venue has a café and you can pay for a photo with a koala. Suggestion: get more spiders and tarantulas.

      Today I saw koalas and kangaroos for the first time in my life! I have been to many places outside of Sydney but have never been able to find kangaroos in the wild, but I am glad I was able to see them here at this zoo?

      The koalas were sleeping and were so cute❤️. They were sleeping on a tree. It is fascinating that you can take pictures with koalas if you pay for it. The kangaroos weren’t very active either, but I was able to see them jumping around a bit. I think the other thing that impressed me was the crocodiles. The crocodiles are scary and the keeping staff seems to have a hard time. I would have liked to have seen a wallaby, but it was nice to see a hikidori as well.

      The zoo was not that big, so I went around Wildlife more quickly than I expected. I probably saw everything in less than an hour. If you are not satisfied, I also recommend SEA LIFE next door!

      I saw kangaroos and koalas, so I was very satisfied. Thanks a lot ✨

      What a great place right in the city. We did the breakfast with the koalas experience and it was fantastic, from the highlights tour with the keeper Oliver to the kangaroo walk about, a hot delicious breakfast but my fav has to be the crocodile viewing space it was awesome. Thanks so much a great day
