    Rockhampton is a city in the Rockhampton Region of Central Queensland, Australia. In the 2021 census, the population of Rockhampton was 79,293.Rockhampton is one of the oldest cities in Queensland and in Northern Australia. In 1853, Charles and William Archer came across the Toonooba River (which is now also known as the Fitzroy River), which they claimed in-honour of Sir Charles FitzRoy. The Archer brothers took-up a run near Gracemere in 1855, and more settlers arrived soon thereafter, enticed by the fertile valleys. The town of Rockhampton was proclaimed in 1858, and surveyed by William Henry Standish, Arthur F. Wood and Francis Clarke; their chosen street layout closely resembled the Hoddle Grid of Melbourne, consisting of a grid of wide boulevards and laneways, something which was uncommon, at the time, in Queensland. Within a year, gold was found at Canoona, and led to the first North Australian gold rush. The Canoona gold rush led to an influx of migrants who quickly transformed Rockhampton into the second-largest port in the state; during this period, Rockhampton was nicknamed the "City of the Three S's"—"sin, sweat, and sorrow". Subsequent gold discoveries at Mount Morgan Mine, which was (at that time) one of the most-productive gold mines in the world, laid the foundations for much of the city's Victorian architecture. The city is noted for its Queenslander architecture, especially in the areas of Allenstown and the Range. Rockhampton is also a popular tourist destination, known for its history and culture, supporting such institutions as the Rockhampton Art Gallery (one of the most extensive regional galleries in Australia) and Central Queensland University, with campuses across five states. There is also the Rockhampton Heritage Village and the Dreamtime Cultural Centre. It is also famous as the hometown of Rod Laver – one of the best tennis players in history. The city, served by the Rockhampton Airport, acts as a gateway to local tourist hotspots such as the Capricorn Caves and Mount Archer National Park, as well as regional tourist attractions including the historic town of Mount Morgan; other notable sites include Yeppoon and the Capricorn Coast, alongside the offshore island chains that include Great Keppel Island.

      I heard about this place on the radio. Wow its huge. They have a great variety of fruit and veggies with great prices. You grab a wagon and fill it up as you make your way around the very clean and tidy and large fruit store. So many turns to find another great variety of foods. Great value for money too.       Love buying our fruit and veges here each week. Always fresh and a great selection. Fresh flowers are available, great variety. Good coffee at the little Cafe. Just a little suggestion – it would be nice to have the option to buy a piece of cake or scones to have with a cuppa rather than just biscuits.

      We go here every couple of months. Great atmosphere and lovely people from all over the south west, and Perth. Get anything from natural Karri & Jarrah honey, fruit & veg, wooden furniture, coffee and much more. I explained I was after a special gift for a very good friend and the staff member came with me, making suggestions, unlocking the cabinets so I could get a good look at the items.       Worth the visit just to experience and DEFINITELY worth the visit if you’re shopping for fresh produce. Wow, really wish we had something like this where I live that isn’t a commercial grocer.

      All I wanted was some fresh fruit as a snack and I was not disappointed. Fantastic!

      There are also vendors with prepared food, coffee, clothing, jewelry, gifts. A nice place to support locals.

      The Thai raw papaya salad is awesome, as are the quiches from Frenchies!

      Personally the big Question is… why have 2 markets on in Townsville at the same time? …. both the Willows and Flinders street markets are very hit and miss, many traders can’t justify their continued attendence hence when you visit either you may find that it was not worth the time. Logic would say is it not a good idea to have a single venue to host the market each week, where every one wishing to trade will need to be at ? Then at least the people whom wish to buy fresh produce etc can do so??? a central market location is best and how other city’s do so well! Food for thought?

      Lovely little market with excellent quality food. Recommending a stop at the cheese stall and a stop at the fresh bread stall to make your own cheese sandwich on the spot, like we did (smoked mozzarella doesn’t need to be toasted and it is sublime when fresh on a fresh bread slice). Loved the cookies as well which get sold out quickly.

      Great selection of fresh produce and specialty stalls as well as a variety of food trucks and coffee kiosks. Came at 8:30am and it was in full swing with a good amount of crowd without getting too packed. Not as big as the famous salamanca market, however a good alternative if you can’t make it on Saturday.

      This was my first time at the Kingston foreshore and it was a nice little Sunday market. There are two levels where the bottom level has different food stalls from Jordanian, Ethiopian, Korean and Filipino cuisine to bagels, fresh produce, BBQ rubs and cannolis. The top level has craft’s and clothing stalls. It’s a good little stop to break up your Sunday.

      The market opens from 9.30 to 2.30 but sometimes some of the stalls have late closings (the good food has probably run out). I recommend you to try the Jordanian and Laotian cuisine, they are great! The fudge sold here also tastes amazing. Keep in mind that there’s a glasswork museum next to the market which is worth visiting.
