Top Laundry Service in Christchurch, New Zealand

A major earthquake occurred in Christchurch on Tuesday 22 February 2011 at 12:51 p.m. local time (23:51 UTC, 21 February). The Mw6.2 (ML6.3) earthquake struck the Canterbury region in the South Island, centred 6.7 kilometres (4.2 mi) south-east of the central business district. It caused widespread damage across Christchurch, killing 185 people in New Zealand's fifth-deadliest disaster.
Christchurch's central city and eastern suburbs were badly affected, with damage to buildings and infrastructure already weakened by the magnitude 7.1 Canterbury earthquake of 4 September 2010 and its aftershocks. Significant liquefaction affected the eastern suburbs, producing around 400,000 tonnes of silt. The earthquake was felt across the South Island and parts of the lower and central North Island. While the initial quake only lasted for approximately 10 seconds, the damage was severe because of the location and shallowness of the earthquake's focus in relation to Christchurch as well as previous quake damage. Subsequent population loss saw the Christchurch main urban area fall behind the Wellington equivalent, to decrease from second- to third-most populous area in New Zealand. Adjusted for inflation, the earthquake caused over NZ$77 billion in damage, making it New Zealand’s costliest natural disaster and the 21st-most-expensive disaster in history.

A number of problems: – The place was filthy. – Only one of the two available 9kg machines was actually working. – The dryer I used made a hell of a noise and hardly dried my clothes. Had to waste another $5 and 25 minutes trying to get my clothes dry.

This place is definitely not up to the usual Liquid Laundromat standard and I definitely won’t be going back.

I would give this laundromat a better rating but there are multiple issues. Firstly, we found the place to be considerably dirty. The roof is missing panels, machines are covered in uncleaned old detergent, and some of the dryers are broken and rusted. Secondly, it’s unreasonably expensive. A mid-range washing machine costs $9 per load, whereas other laundromats cost around $6 for an equivalent load. Lastly, there’s no seating or a place to wait. Would recommend anyone to go elsewhere until these issues are fixed.

I don’t recommend going to this laundromat at all. The washing machines are really dirty, hairs and sticky fluff all over the detergent tray. Also, the drying machines are really rusty and smelly. The place itself was very messy and dirty with random dirty stinky clothes that were left on the top of the machine. The floor area is covered with dust, sand, and laundry detergent everywhere. This place looks like a disaster. No proper and enough chairs to sit while waiting. Paying and operating the machines were such a hassle PLUS it’s very overpriced, it’s easier to pay directly using the Eftpos like other laundromat rather than paying for another dime just to use a lame card at this place. Only went to this one because it is the closest to where we are currently. Save yourself.

Plenty of washers and dryers including very large washers for that difficult to clean & dry bedding. Very good place. By the way, the rules are very clear, if a washing machine has finished and nobody has emptied it then you’re allowed to empty it yourself. Simply place their washing on the stainless steel bench for them to sort out themselves. Same rule applies for the dryers. Be respectful of others and you’ll have no issues. Peace ?

This is my 2nd time being here. The machines are clean, the place itself is clean(ish), up the sides of the washing machines could do woth a clean out. ForThe people using this facility have always been really nice for example I couldn’t reach the last of my washing and a person helped me. Someone else entertained my daughter for a minute or do till I transferred some clothes from the washer to the dryer

My first time writing a review on Google Map is for the fabulous receptionists in Bealey Quarter. Due to my stupid touching a button and locking my suitcase without writing down the passwords of both lockers, I was almost crying at the reception. The staff at the reception tried their best to comfort me and help me. Grace, one of the staff, helped me test the passwords one by one and finally she found out the correct passwords in a short time. It was almost a task cannot be done and she did. This is a lovely hostel and I will definitely book again when I am back to Christchurch. Cheers to all of you and your kindness.

Stayed for 3 nights in the courtyard facing studio. Had our own beds and bathroom, daily room service and access to the communal kitchen and laundry room. No complaints. Great location and happy with the price. Would recommend courtyard studio ?

I booked a bed in one of the dorm style rooms in the Lodge. The spring mattress was not very comfortable, but it was decent enough. With all the beds and people in the 8-bed room, it was VERY tight. Not a lot of space to put my things which was just one suitcase and one backpack. The kitchen was clean and well stocked, but the fridges were full of old food. Kind and helpful staff. I found some decent parking around the back on Packe St. Good for a short stay, but not much longer than a few days.

Here not like hostel like a dorm. If u stay short term than very good. If u wanna work this area and u will stay here long term than i dont recommend. Because u cant rest here too much. Very clear please. Everyday cleaning very good. I have big respect about that. Toilet shower everything is good. Room very nice for 8 people little too much. But if u stay couple days u cant care. U can stay. Generally i like here. Very nice place. Kitchen also nice. Only living room not enough. Very small area. Thank u guys ???????

The staff was horrid. The woman working the front desk, after yelling at another customer for speaking poor English, admitted to mistakingly giving our room away before we arrived.

We booked a King bed room – but they had no more of that same style. Normally – a hotel person who screwed up would offer an upgrade or at least a similar room. Instead she offered us a room with 2 child-sized beds instead.

After 20 hours of flights, we were too tired to cancel and find another place so we just stayed, but it was massively underwhelming.

I believe the staff person, who told us she’d worked there for 8 months, should probably not be doing a customer-facing role as she seems to despise people.

The Christchurch mosque shootings were two consecutive mass shootings on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand on 15 March 2019. They were committed by Brenton Tarrant who entered both mosques during Friday prayer, firstly at the Al Noor Mosque at 1:40 p.m. and later at the Linwood Islamic Centre at 1:52 p.m.
Tarrant was arrested after his vehicle was rammed by a police unit as he was driving to a third mosque in Ashburton. He live-streamed the first shooting on Facebook, marking the first successfully live-streamed far-right terror attack, and had published an online manifesto before the attack. On 26 March 2020, he pleaded guilty to 51 murders, 40 attempted murders, and engaging in a terrorist act, and in August was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole – the first such sentence in New Zealand. The attack was linked to an increase in white supremacy and alt-right extremism globally observed since about 2015. Politicians and world leaders condemned it, and then-Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern described it as "one of New Zealand's darkest days". The government established a royal commission into its security agencies in the wake of the shootings, which were the deadliest in modern New Zealand history and the worst ever committed by an Australian national. The commission submitted its report to the government on 26 November 2020, the details of which were made public on 7 December. The shooting has inspired copycat attacks, especially due to its live-streamed nature. In response to this incident, the United Nations designated March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.

A great place to walk on any day. Don’t let the weather put you off it looks great even when wet. There are plenty of places to sit and relax. And there is also a nice cafe. The gardens and flowers look great neatly presented with an array of colour. Off street parking is possible but it quickly fills up. Situated behind the Museum on Hagley Park the Botanical Gardens are easy to find.

Christchurch (; Māori: Ōtautahi) is the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand and the seat of the Canterbury Region. Christchurch lies on the South Island's east coast, just north of Banks Peninsula on Pegasus Bay. The Avon River (Ōtākaro) flows through the centre of the city, with an urban park along its banks.
The city's territorial authority population is 396,200 people, and includes a number of smaller urban areas as well as rural areas. The population of the urban area is 384,800 people. Christchurch is the second-largest city by urban area population in New Zealand, after Auckland. It is the major urban area of an emerging sub-region known as Greater Christchurch. Notable smaller urban areas within this sub-region include Rangiora and Kaiapoi in Waimakariri District, north of the Waimakariri River, and Rolleston and Lincoln in Selwyn District to the south.
The first inhabitants migrated to the area sometime between 1000 and 1250 AD. They hunted moa, which led to the birds' extinction by 1450, and destroyed much of the mataī and tōtara forest. The first iwi to settle the area that would later become known as Christchurch were the Waitaha, who migrated to the area in the 16th century. They were followed later by the Kāti Māmoe, who conquered the Waitaha. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the Ngāi Tahu migrated to the area and subjugated the Kāti Māmoe. Over time the Ngāi Tahu tribe would develop a large pā based around Kaiapoi, which was a major centre for the trade of pounamu.Christchurch became a city by Royal Charter on 31 July 1856, making it officially the oldest established city in New Zealand. The Canterbury Association, which settled the Canterbury Plains, named the city after Christ Church, Oxford. The new settlement was laid out in a grid pattern centred on Cathedral Square; during the 19th century there were few barriers to the rapid growth of the urban area, except for the Pacific to the east and the Port Hills to the south. Agriculture is the historic mainstay of Christchurch's economy. The early presence of the University of Canterbury and the heritage of the city's academic institutions in association with local businesses has fostered a number of technology-based industries. Christchurch is one of five Antarctic gateway cities, hosting Antarctic support bases for several nations. The city suffered a series of earthquakes between September 2010 and January 2012, with the most destructive occurring at 12.51 p.m. on 22 February 2011, in which 185 people were killed and thousands of buildings across the city suffered severe damage, with a few central city buildings collapsing. By late 2013, 1,500 buildings in the city had been demolished, leading to ongoing recovery and rebuilding projects. The city later became the site of a terrorist attack targeting two mosques on 15 March 2019, in which 51 people were killed, and which was described by the Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, as "one of New Zealand's darkest days".

Beautiful place to spend half a day. It is a big zize zoo in natural habitat. There is a lot of walking to do if you want a close-up look at animals. The shuttle is nice, but you can’t see much from it. Will be nice if the stops are longer to allow you to jump off, see the animals for 5-10min, then jump on and go to the next stop. During the visit, it was impossible to spot some animals like the tiger or some big apes because the building door was locked or they were hiding somewhere. It will be nice to be possible to see them. Otherwise, it’s a great encounter, and if the weather is good, it will be a great day.

Holy cow, my kids (and myself) absolutely loved this place. Lions and tigers and keas, OH MY! Seriously though it was great. We got there at around 2:30 on Sunday Dec 31 and had the place to ourselves it felt like. We fed the giraffes. Saw the kiwi. Had a blast. Obviously you didn’t come all the way to New Zealand for a zoo. However, we did this on our last day and thought it was wonderful.

Great Wildlife Centre with a really impressive variety of animals. The enclosures all look pretty good and the animals are healthy. I like the fact they offer an adoption box system to help contribute to the long term welfare of the animals and the upkeep of the grounds etc. Even though it was very busy when we visited it didn’t feel crowded at all, and it’s very cool that they offer a little hop on hop off cart that drives around the whole park for those who don’t want to walk far. Would happily visit again.

Its a huge zoo, great experience! Though it was hot at 26° today and was a long queue, it moves fast and feeding the giraffes is fun and exciting.. The lions are healthy, the gorillas are aloof and adorable, lol.. Plenty of parking and picnic tables. The toilets need frequent check as it was dirty on peak summer season.

New Zealand (Māori: Aotearoa) is an island country located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, near the centre of the water hemisphere. It consists of a large number of islands, estimated around 700, mainly remnants of a larger landmass now beneath the sea. The land masses by size are the South Island (or Te Waipounamu) and the North Island (or Te Ika-a-Māui), separated by the Cook Strait. The third-largest is Stewart Island / Rakiura, located 30 kilometres (19 miles) off the tip of the South Island across Foveaux Strait. Other islands are significantly smaller in area. The three largest islands stretch 1,600 kilometres (990 miles) across latitudes 35° to 47° south. New Zealand is the sixth-largest island country in the world, with a land size of 268,710 km2 (103,750 sq mi).New Zealand's landscapes range from the fjords of the southwest to the sandy beaches of the subtropical Far North. The South Island is dominated by the Southern Alps while a volcanic plateau covers much of the central North Island. Temperatures commonly fall below 0 °C (32 °F) and rise above 30 °C (86 °F) then conditions vary from wet and cold on the South Island's west coast to dry and continental a short distance away across the mountains and to the tundra like climate in the Deep South of Southland.
About two-thirds of the land is economically useful, with the remainder being mountainous. The North Island is the most populous island with 4 million residents, and Auckland being by far the largest metropolitan area in the country by population and urban area. The South Island is the second-most populated island, with over 1.18 million people, but is geographically larger than the North.
New Zealand is situated on the boundary of the Pacific and Australian tectonic plates, making it one of the most active earthquake and volcanic regions in the world. The country has experienced several devastating earthquakes throughout its history.
The New Zealand mainland is about 2,000 kilometres (1,200 miles) east of the Australian mainland across the Tasman Sea, the closest foreign neighbour to its main islands being Norfolk Island (Australia) about 750 kilometres (470 miles) to the north west. Other island groups to the north are New Caledonia, Tonga and Fiji. It is the southernmost nation in Oceania. The relative close proximity of New Zealand to Antarctica has made the South Island a major gateway for scientific expeditions to the continent.

Possibly the biggest market in the South Island, it has everything from second hand stalls, to art and craft. A lot of food stall too, at least 20 of them.

The market is organised by Rotary club and their profit goes to community projects.

Plenty of parking but it can get very very busy. It’s best to come early for better selection.

I was visiting Christchurch from San Francisco and intended to ride into the Port Hills for a day. I found Around Again Cycles on Google Maps. I liked the store concept – giving bikes a second lease of life and augmenting income by renting the used bikes for sale.

I contacted them via email on their website, to which they were responsive. I stopped by the shop, and they fitted me with a great road bike, shoes, and a helmet. All for a great price with the option to return to bike the following day if I ran late.

I had a great ride up Dyers Pass Rd to Sign of the Kiwi Cafe, across Summit Rd to Transmitter Station, down Gebbles Pass Rd to Lyttelton, then to Sumner Beach. Tip for tourists: Do have the date scones at the Cafe, and don’t ride through the SH74 tunnel in Lyttelton! When I returned the bike, I bought pedals and shoes for a fair price.

I bought my daily commuting bike over a year ago and couldn’t be happier with the purchase and ongoing. I came into the shop knowing little about bikes but was matched with one that suited my needs perfectly. It’s been incredibly reliable even through the wear and tear I put it through!

Also wanted to give a shout out to the service/repairs team. They went above and beyond when I dropped in to repair a flat tyre today, flagging a serious safety issue with my chain and fixing it on the spot. Really appreciated and highly recommend!

My wife and I bought two commuter bikes about 7 months ago and couldn’t be more happy with them. The selection of quality bikes and various price points truly was impressive. They have the best price and quality I’ve seen in Christchurch. But the honestly and integrity of workers left me even more impressed.

I ended up damaging my bike after 6 months of commuting and have just taken my bike in for a tune up and repair. Again, I was taken care of and paid half the price I was expecting. Once again, the value for the price is simple unmatched. Very grateful for the people at Around Again Cycles.

I used their brilliant deal where you buy a second hand bike from them and then return it at the end of your holiday (almost 3 weeks) and they buy it back for half what you paid. The bike was brilliant in very good condition and allowed me to explore Christchurch with ease. My fav place has to be Bottle Lake and the forest tracks. I didn’t use the bike on a bus service but a friendly bus driver let me take a photo of my bike on the bus to show friends back home, what a fab way to take your bike further afield. Richard York UK
