    Mackay () is a city in the Mackay Region on the eastern or Coral Sea coast of Queensland, Australia. It is located about 970 kilometres (603 mi) north of Brisbane, on the Pioneer River. Mackay is described as being in either Central Queensland or North Queensland, as these regions are not precisely defined. More generally, the area is known as the Mackay–Whitsunday Region.       Got some really nice shops in here and a little food court that sells some banger kebabs. The Woolworths here is okay, Kmart is pretty good. EB Games is ALWAYS having a sale, apparently. The Asian food shop is great too.

      When arriving in this region, make sure that your first stop is the Mackay Region Visitor Information Centre. Volunteer Bev was friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. The centre was also well stocked with maps and brochures. There’s plenty of parking out front if you are towing a van and the award winning Sarina Sugar Shed is right next door !

      A clean family friendly area for a free travel stop. Information centre was closed on New Year’s but thanks for a suitable shady place that has clean toilets. Been here a few times to see the gallery and see the historic buildings.

      I have stopped at sarina twice now. Both times towing our caravan. There is ample parking, clean facilities and easy access to a dump point. Only thing we have had to go searching for is bins. A few more around the parking area would be fantastic We will be back ?

      The day I visited here the lady that I spoke with was super friendly and extremely helpful. Unlike some visitor information centres, the lady seemed genuinely eager to be there and to be helpful. She made my visit to Sarina and surrounding areas much more interesting thanks to her help.

      Well it’s 2023 and qld rail does not even have an electronic sign updating train arrivals absolutely disgusting sitting at a train station in the night for hour’s give the train a miss catch a bus at least will arrive on time about the same comfort.and this was for Sarina train station ??????

      I would walk this trail when the water is lowering as you will be surprised at what you see with the wildlife, I would just take a bottle of bug spray as the mosquitoes were just surrounding us, that’s the downside. The small trail is not bad for wheelchairs just a bit bumpy in some parts and takes it slow.

      Nice cool walk through beautiful Paper Bark forest. The forest at the moment suffers a little from past Cyclone damage and dry conditions. The sound of a variety birds is the only music you need on this wonderful walk past a variety of plants. Recently the Paper Barks were all out in flower and the smell of honey filled the air. Escape the hum drum and hustle and bustle and take a nice quiet walk.

      Came here for breakfast a while ago and loved it… So, this time I thought I would give lunch a whirl. So glad I did. Amazing atmosphere and lovely food. Good serving size at a reasonable price. Today was Pear and Bacon salad, and their Club Sandwich (chicken, Bacon, avocado etc). Both were flavoursome and an enjoyment to eat. Service was friendly and efficient as well. Nice place for a Friday lunch (or any day to be honest) ?

      Great botanic gardens laid out all along the lagoon, so green! Good birdwatching (Jacanas, 100 Plumed Whistling Ducks, 130 Magpie Geese, Cotton Pygmy Geese, Drongos, etc). Interesting to see how much it has established in just 20 years. And the cafe is fabulous looking out over the lagoon and surrounded by greenery, great coffee, lovely pear salad, best ricotta cheesecake and lamington cake. I can see why they’ve won cake prizes in the Mackay Show! (Just note google busy-times for cafe, there was a 1h wait on lunch orders at 12:30 Sunday, and most tables full, so we just walked the gardens for 45mins til it cleared).
