State housing is a system of public housing in New Zealand, offering low-cost rental housing to residents on low to moderate incomes. Some 69,000 state houses are managed by Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities, most of which are owned by the Crown. In excess of 31,000 former state houses exist, which are now privately owned after large-scale sell-offs during recent decades. Since 2014, state housing has been part of a wider social housing system, which also includes privately owned low-cost housing.
An archetypal 1930s and 1940s state house is a detached two- or three-bedroom cottage-style house, with weatherboard or brick veneer cladding, a steep hipped tile roof, and multi-paned timber casement windows. Thousands of these houses were built across New Zealand as state housing, and as private housing after World War II, when the government started selling their drawings and plans in an attempt to hasten housing construction. These houses, also known as "ex-state houses" to distinguish them from modern state housing, have a reputation of being well-built and are very sought after by real estate buyers, especially after the leaky homes crisis of the 1990s and 2000s hit buyer confidence in newer stock.

Good washing machines and dryers. Different sizes are available with reasonable prices. Small washers are 14kg and large ones are 18 kgs. Small dryers are 14kgs and big dryers are 22kgs.

I have attached the photos for costs for different machines. It is opposite of hiltom swimming academy.

Parkings are limited to 4-5 cars so street parking can be used.

Go for washing and drying the Clothes ☺️

Expensive and their card dispenser has obviously been rigged so the card doesn’t come out. So you top up and the card gets stuck. Had to use my keys trying to ply out the card I’d just put $20 on. Also nothing like having to listen to some random blokes Bluetooth speaker at full bore which keeps cutting out every time he left the room and wondered round outside which was a lot.

Always handy for those large washing jobs. Can be busy but most of the time there is a machine or 2 free. Easy topup available on site now.

Good facility, clean, plenty of machines, clean, good condition dryers & washers, small to x-large in both. $10 x-large load washing – $8 for 30mins in x-large dryer, you choose the heat. You have to purchase a smart card $3 initial cost for card & then top it up to use the machines, this is easily done at the dairy right next to the laundromat. Limited parking available directly outside the front.

Wonderful staff, helpful and friendly. I liked the castle feel at the door, the dark brick and the plain wooden door. Parking at the door on a one-way driveway. Plenty of lighting options in the room, and plenty of mirrors. I appreciated a luggage rack for both travellers. Comfy bed, nice pillows. Plugs in handy location for charging devices on the bedside table. Also a usb cord charging point over the desk. Four wifi options to get the best signal. Shower had an adjustable hose which was awesome as many motels don’t, but the shower drain was blocked. Hand basin needs an upgrade. Clean plates and cutlery on the kitchen shelf. Milk came in a glass bottle. I didn’t try the TV. alarm clock. Fan and heater in the room if needed. Soap can be left for a recycling scheme that supports the community. The motel is on the corner of a busy main road and a quiet shady tree lined street. Would be nice to take a walk down there in the evening.

We have just returned from a semi business stay at Fitzherbert Castle Motel, finalising affairs of a deceased estate. We have stayed last year in the same motel as well, on both occasions one thing jumps out – the service! The service from the manager/operators is second to none, the young man at the reception is absolutely fantastic, very polite, accommodating and above all very friendly. Nothing is too much for him, my wife is handicapped and he will accommodate all our needs. His parents who run the motel are also absolutely fantastic, so the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree … two thumbs up. The motel is not the newest anymore but the service given and cleanliness are absolutely amazing and make up for the older interior. Your first load of washing is included in the price, we made use twice of this service – fantastic result clean, folded and smelling wonderful fresh.

Rooms **** Cleanliness ***** Bed (king size) **** Facilities ***** Service ***** Price ***** Parking *** large cars will have some trouble parking. Noise **** some road noise, when boy/girl racers are active. Returning customer – definitely (next year, when visiting NZ) Thank you for a great stay, see you next year.

We got the big corner upstairs room and it was lovely, a bit out dated but clean spacey and perfect for our short stay. Bathroom definitely needs re doing as mold is growing around the bath tub. Also you may want to bring along ear plugs, I had mine and slept great whereas my husband said it was very noisy.

Staff were really lovely and the price is great Would recommend for a short stay

The town of Palmerston, in New Zealand's South Island, lies 50 kilometres to the north of the city of Dunedin. It is the largest town in the Waihemo Ward of the Waitaki District, with a population of 890 residents. Palmerston grew at a major road junction: State Highway 1 links Dunedin and Waikouaiti to the south with Oamaru and Christchurch to the north, while State Highway 85 (known colloquially as "The Pigroot") heads inland to become the principal highway of the Maniototo. The Main South Line railway passes through the town and the Seasider tourist train travels from Dunedin to Palmerston and back once or twice a week. From 1880 until 1989, the town acted as the junction between the main line and a branch line that ran inland, the Dunback and Makareao Branches.
Palmerston stands near the banks of the Waihemo / Shag River, five kilometres inland from the Pacific coast. Between it and the sea stands the lone hill of Puketapu (Māori for sacred hill, known by Southerners as Holy Hill), crowned with a monument to the 19th century Otago politician Sir John McKenzie. An annual race takes place up to the memorial and back, which is called the Kelly's canter, dedicated to Albert Kelly who ran up Puketapu as a constable in the Palmerston police force every day during World War II. This cairn is the second around Palmerston dedicated to MacKenzie – an earlier cairn was built on a hill to the north of the town, near Shag Point, but collapsed owing to the unstable geology of the site.
Many people confuse the town of Palmerston with the much more populous North Island city of Palmerston North, whose residents often call their home simply "Palmerston". Otago's town has the earlier claim to the name, however – its surveying dates from 1862, whereas the northern city did not receive its name until 1871. Both towns take their names from Lord Palmerston, the 19th-century British Prime Minister.
The nearby Shag River is named for the cormorant, a sea bird that ventures a little inland, colloquially known as a 'shag'. The river's Māori name, 'Waihemo', has been translated as 'Dwindle River'. It is thought to arise from the river's tendency to reduce in summer to a small stream. Palmerston used to be the capital of the Waihemo County, the surrounding district, before it was amalgamated with the Waitaki District in 1989.

We had a birthday party at Te Manawa. It was great value for money. We had a really good space with activities set up for the kids, more than we expected. The host Andi was great. Really helpful and great with the kids. Matty and Shannon were so helpful and lovely. Would definitely recommend Te Manawa to host kids birthdays.

The museum looks deceptively small from the front, but is cleverly designed where one room leads to another, and so on, so it’s kind of “long”. Of course, like many museums elsewhere where the nation is divided, to some extent, between an original indigenous population and European colonisers, the museums are organised from a certain dominant perspective, history of the nation is seen from a certain skewed lens. Having said that, this museum by itself was fascinating, because the country itself is. More than its people it’s the flora and fauna that attracts attention, and here the museum has done an excellent job! As an extra bonus we managed to catch a fab show of the celebrated Maori artist Sandy Adsett.

Palmerston North (; Māori: Te Papa-i-Oea, known colloquially as Palmy) is a city in the North Island of New Zealand and the seat of the Manawatū-Whanganui region. Located in the eastern Manawatu Plains, the city is near the north bank of the Manawatu River, 35 km (22 mi) from the river's mouth, and 12 km (7 mi) from the end of the Manawatū Gorge, about 140 km (87 mi) north of the capital, Wellington. Palmerston North is the country's eighth-largest urban area, with an urban population of 82,500 (June 2023). The estimated population of Palmerston North city is 91,800 (June 2023).The official limits of the city take in rural areas to the south, north-east, north-west and west of the main urban area, extending to the Tararua Ranges; including the town of Ashhurst at the mouth of the Manawatū Gorge, the villages of Bunnythorpe and Longburn in the north and west respectively. The city covers a land area of 395 square kilometres (98,000 acres). The city's location was once little more than a clearing in a forest and occupied by small communities of Māori, who called it Papa-i-Oea, believed to mean "How beautiful it is". In the mid-19th century, it was settled by Europeans—originally by Scandinavians and, later, British settlers. On foundation, the British settlement was bestowed the name Palmerston, in honour of Viscount Palmerston, a former British Prime Minister. The suffix North was added in 1871 to distinguish the settlement from Palmerston in the South Island. Today, the name is often informally shortened to "Palmy".Early Palmerston North relied on public works and sawmilling. The west coast railway was built in 1886, linking the town to Wellington, and Palmerston North benefited from a booming pastoral farming industry. Linton Military Camp, Palmerston North Hospital, and the establishment of Massey University (in 1927) have reduced the dependence on farming due to more skilled workers, since the early 20th century. Popular attractions include Te Manawa (a museum and art gallery that includes the New Zealand Rugby Museum), and several performing arts venues.

Well maintained public park adjacent to the Esplanade, it was ideal for getting the kite up. Plenty of parking on Park Road and trees around the edges.

Ongley Park is the centre of activity in Palmerston North. Something for everyone, there is always a game of football, rugby, cricket to be had! It is within walking distance of the riverfront trail and esplanade activities. It is a great spot for the family to burn some energy or walk the dog.

Napier ( NAY-pee-ər; Māori: Ahuriri) is a city on the eastern coast of the North Island of New Zealand and the seat of the Hawke's Bay region. It is a beachside city with a seaport, known for its sunny climate, esplanade lined with Norfolk pines, and extensive Art Deco architecture. Napier is sometimes referred to as the "Nice of the Pacific", although that is largely outdated and a more common nickname is 'The Art Deco Capital of the world'.
The population of Napier is about 67,500 as of June 2023. About 18 km (11 mi) south of Napier is the inland city of Hastings. These two neighbouring cities are often called "The Bay Cities" or "The Twin Cities" of New Zealand, with the two cities and the surrounding towns of Havelock North and Clive having a combined population of 136,290. The City of Napier has a land area of 106 km2 (41 sq mi) and a population density of 540.0 per square kilometre.
Napier is the nexus of the largest wool centre in the Southern Hemisphere, and it has the primary export seaport for northeastern New Zealand – which is the largest producer of apples, pears, and stone fruit in New Zealand. The Hawke's Bay wine region is now the second largest in New Zealand after Marlborough, and grapes grown around Hastings and Napier are sent through the Port of Napier for export. Large amounts of sheep's wool, frozen meat, wood pulp, and timber also pass through Napier annually for export. Smaller amounts of these materials are shipped via road and railway to the large metropolitan areas of New Zealand itself, such as Auckland, Wellington and Hamilton.
Napier is a popular tourist city, with a unique concentration of 1930s Art Deco, and to a lesser extent Spanish Mission, architecture, built after much of the city was razed in the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake. It also has one of the most photographed tourist attractions in the country, a statue of the figure in local Ngāti Kahungunu mythology, Pania, on Marine Parade, Pania of the Reef. Thousands of people flock to Napier every February for the Tremains Art Deco Weekend event, a celebration of its Art Deco heritage and history. Other notable tourist events attracting many outsiders to the region annually include F.A.W.C! Food and Wine Classic events, and the Mission Estate Concert at Mission Estate Winery in the suburb of Taradale.

The locking system in the recently installed trolleys can be dangerous. At times, the system locks up while you are exiting and can hit you with force, causing injury. Countdown should review this new system to ensure that it is safe and secure for everyone.

Bought some dairy goods with not long left on best before date. 5 days others I purchased at the same time had 20 days. Brought them back about 3 hours later. Wanted to exchange or refund. Initially flat out refused. Fellow didn’t even ask me what the issue was before saying no. Was escalated to management. Agreed to refund but still wanted to blame me for not checking BB date before purchasing. My advice, be more approachable. Accept responsibility for short comings.

New Zealand (Māori: Aotearoa) is an island country located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, near the centre of the water hemisphere. It consists of a large number of islands, estimated around 700, mainly remnants of a larger landmass now beneath the sea. The land masses by size are the South Island (or Te Waipounamu) and the North Island (or Te Ika-a-Māui), separated by the Cook Strait. The third-largest is Stewart Island / Rakiura, located 30 kilometres (19 miles) off the tip of the South Island across Foveaux Strait. Other islands are significantly smaller in area. The three largest islands stretch 1,600 kilometres (990 miles) across latitudes 35° to 47° south. New Zealand is the sixth-largest island country in the world, with a land size of 268,710 km2 (103,750 sq mi).New Zealand's landscapes range from the fjords of the southwest to the sandy beaches of the subtropical Far North. The South Island is dominated by the Southern Alps while a volcanic plateau covers much of the central North Island. Temperatures commonly fall below 0 °C (32 °F) and rise above 30 °C (86 °F) then conditions vary from wet and cold on the South Island's west coast to dry and continental a short distance away across the mountains and to the tundra like climate in the Deep South of Southland.
About two-thirds of the land is economically useful, with the remainder being mountainous. The North Island is the most populous island with 4 million residents, and Auckland being by far the largest metropolitan area in the country by population and urban area. The South Island is the second-most populated island, with over 1.18 million people, but is geographically larger than the North.
New Zealand is situated on the boundary of the Pacific and Australian tectonic plates, making it one of the most active earthquake and volcanic regions in the world. The country has experienced several devastating earthquakes throughout its history.
The New Zealand mainland is about 2,000 kilometres (1,200 miles) east of the Australian mainland across the Tasman Sea, the closest foreign neighbour to its main islands being Norfolk Island (Australia) about 750 kilometres (470 miles) to the north west. Other island groups to the north are New Caledonia, Tonga and Fiji. It is the southernmost nation in Oceania. The relative close proximity of New Zealand to Antarctica has made the South Island a major gateway for scientific expeditions to the continent.

Wellington (; Māori: Te Whanganui-a-Tara [tɛ ˈɸaŋanʉi a taɾa] or Pōneke [ˈpɔːnɛkɛ]) is the capital city of New Zealand. It is located at the south-western tip of the North Island, between Cook Strait and the Remutaka Range. Wellington is the third-largest city in New Zealand, and is the administrative centre of the Wellington Region. It is the world's southernmost capital of a sovereign state. Wellington features a temperate maritime climate, and is the world's windiest city by average wind speed.Māori oral tradition tells that Kupe discovered and explored the region in about the 10th century. The area was initially settled by Māori iwi such as Rangitāne and Muaūpoko. The disruptions of the Musket Wars led to them being overwhelmed by northern iwi such as Te Āti Awa by the early 19th century.Wellington's current form was originally designed by Captain William Mein Smith, the first Surveyor General for Edward Wakefield's New Zealand Company, in 1840. Smith's plan included a series of interconnected grid plans, expanding along valleys and lower hill slopes. The Wellington urban area, which only includes urbanised areas within Wellington City, has a population of 215,200 as of June 2023. The wider Wellington metropolitan area, including the cities of Lower Hutt, Porirua and Upper Hutt, has a population of 440,900 as of June 2023. The city has served as New Zealand's capital since 1865, a status that is not defined in legislation, but established by convention; the New Zealand Government and Parliament, the Supreme Court and most of the public service are based in the city.Wellington's economy is primarily service-based, with an emphasis on finance, business services, government, and the film industry. It is the centre of New Zealand's film and special effects industries, and increasingly a hub for information technology and innovation, with two public research universities. Wellington is one of New Zealand's chief seaports and serves both domestic and international shipping. The city is chiefly served by Wellington International Airport in Rongotai, the country's second-busiest airport. Wellington's transport network includes train and bus lines which reach as far as the Kāpiti Coast and the Wairarapa, and ferries connect the city to the South Island.
Often referred to as New Zealand's cultural capital, the culture of Wellington is a diverse and often youth-driven one which has wielded influence across Oceania. One of the world's most liveable cities, the 2021 Global Livability Ranking tied Wellington with Tokyo as fourth in the world. From 2017 to 2018, Deutsche Bank ranked it first in the world for both livability and non-pollution. Cultural precincts such as Cuba Street and Newtown are renowned for creative innovation, "op shops", historic character, and food. Wellington is a leading financial centre in the Asia-Pacific region, being ranked 35th in the world by the Global Financial Centres Index for 2021. The global city has grown from a bustling Māori settlement, to a colonial outpost, and from there to an Australasian capital that has experienced a "remarkable creative resurgence".

We touring folk are probably difficult customers, because waiting for a repair slot is hard and touring bikes are dirty. The folk at MyRide Palmy squeezed us in, and did everything possible to get us rolling again. That included interrupting one repair job, so we could ride to another shop and buy a spare part that MyRide then fitted. Super awesome, and professional and nice throughout. Thanks so much!

Cycling the TA route and broke a spoke. Bike store across the road said they were booked out two weeks. Although My Ride was quite busy, the Owner/mechanic was able to put aside his busy day and help me so we could carry on. Super kind interaction and the smooth interaction helped turn around a stressful day. I recommend anyone in the area to stop by if they want good customer service and reasonable pricing. Thank you!

Best experience with purchasing first bike for my daughter. We will never go other shops in the future. Definitely recommend to everyone for quality, but also for the best customer service 🙂

Outstanding service on the weekend. We were in Palmerston nth for the NZ school road cycling champs , and one of our girls took a fall. The derailleur hanger was bent as a result. With no replacement available, the workshop offered to try to straighten the hanger They did a terrific job and fixed the problem ..bike on the road. Thanks again . Legend PS our rider had grazes and despite this, is riding tomorrow..
