Townsville is a city on the north-eastern coast of Queensland, Australia. With a population of 179,011 as of the 2021 census, it is the largest settlement in North Queensland; it is unofficially considered its capital. Townsville hosts a significant number of governmental, community and major business administrative offices for the northern half of the state.Part of the larger local government area of the City of Townsville, it is in the dry tropics region of Queensland, adjacent to the central section of the Great Barrier Reef. As of December 2020, $30M operations to expand the Port of Townsville are underway, which involve channel widening and installation of a 70-tonne Liebherr Super Post Panamax Ship-to-Shore crane, to allow much larger cargo and passenger ships to utilise the port. It is an increasingly important port due to its proximity to Asia and major trading partners such as China. Dominant sectors of its diverse economy include defence, administration, health and education, manufacturing, energy, transport and logistics. The city is a national hub for renewable energy, in green hydrogen and polysilicon, as well as the centre of CopperString 2032 being Australia's largest renewable transmission project. Townsville is Australia's 'fortress city', home to a large part of the strategic capability of the ADF, offering essential services including maintenance and supply chains. Townsville is the industrial heart of northern Australia with a GRP of $12.6 billion in 2022.     Run by volunteers this place is well implemented and well worth a visit. Entry is by donation and photography welcome. You can spend a couple of hours here if you have a specific interest. Kids will find the dioramas interesting.

    Great place to look around. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Some terrific displays and great stories to read. The people who keep medals and memorabilia polished do a fantastic job. Free to enter but it wasn’t hard to leave a donation. So much history. Thanks.

    What a great little museum – a hidden gem! There are 3 galleries in total covering different era’s, and some of the displays are really well put together. Definitely worth a visit, we spent an hour here but your could spend longer if you read everything. Some great displays are really hidden away (especially the far right corner in the second gallery building), so be sure to look around!

    A very interesting museum. Lots of interesting artefacts from the Boer War to modern day conflicts telling the story of the Australia’s involvement. Spent a couple of hours here looking round and thoroughly enjoyed it. Even better entry is free. Lots of volunteers who all seemed knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommended if you have an interest in military history and are in the area.

    Absolutely a must to visit. Volunteers were knowledgeable, most are ex army, and very friendly, answered our questions, told a few of their own stories. Great exhibits.

    Fantastic value.
    We were here for hours. Everything was interesting and informative, the kids had lots to do. We stopped at the cafe for lunch and coffee (both excellent).
    One of the volunteers told us all about the Pandora exhibit which was wonderful to listen to.
    I’m sure we would be here frequently if we lived closer.

    Small interactive museum. Kids loved the hands on science room and the enchanted forest.
    Spent about 2 hours here, we did everything to do.
    Locals get half price entry, only available to purchase at door.
    Went on Easter Sunday and it was very quiet which was nice as the kids could spend time on things they enjoyed.

    Absolutely loved the museum. The story of the HMS Pandore is greatly narrated by audiovisual materials, text and original artifacts from the ship wreck. In the upper levels the natural history museum is also very interactive and explained, I particularly liked the exhibition of sealife and corals. Tickets for 15$ only and is suitable for kids as well!
