Napier ( NAY-pee-ər; Māori: Ahuriri) is a city on the eastern coast of the North Island of New Zealand and the seat of the Hawke's Bay region. It is a beachside city with a seaport, known for its sunny climate, esplanade lined with Norfolk pines, and extensive Art Deco architecture. Napier is sometimes referred to as the "Nice of the Pacific", although that is largely outdated and a more common nickname is 'The Art Deco Capital of the world'.
The population of Napier is about 67,500 as of June 2023. About 18 km (11 mi) south of Napier is the inland city of Hastings. These two neighbouring cities are often called "The Bay Cities" or "The Twin Cities" of New Zealand, with the two cities and the surrounding towns of Havelock North and Clive having a combined population of 136,290. The City of Napier has a land area of 106 km2 (41 sq mi) and a population density of 540.0 per square kilometre.
Napier is the nexus of the largest wool centre in the Southern Hemisphere, and it has the primary export seaport for northeastern New Zealand – which is the largest producer of apples, pears, and stone fruit in New Zealand. The Hawke's Bay wine region is now the second largest in New Zealand after Marlborough, and grapes grown around Hastings and Napier are sent through the Port of Napier for export. Large amounts of sheep's wool, frozen meat, wood pulp, and timber also pass through Napier annually for export. Smaller amounts of these materials are shipped via road and railway to the large metropolitan areas of New Zealand itself, such as Auckland, Wellington and Hamilton.
Napier is a popular tourist city, with a unique concentration of 1930s Art Deco, and to a lesser extent Spanish Mission, architecture, built after much of the city was razed in the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake. It also has one of the most photographed tourist attractions in the country, a statue of the figure in local Ngāti Kahungunu mythology, Pania, on Marine Parade, Pania of the Reef. Thousands of people flock to Napier every February for the Tremains Art Deco Weekend event, a celebration of its Art Deco heritage and history. Other notable tourist events attracting many outsiders to the region annually include F.A.W.C! Food and Wine Classic events, and the Mission Estate Concert at Mission Estate Winery in the suburb of Taradale.

In the middle of upgrading 1st floor so lots of stock moved to ground floor which makes it rather crowded. Looked online before visit and selected 2 dresses and had to ask staff where both designers were located on floor. Changing room does not have mirrors angled to see back view of garment but was fortunate that another customer offered to take photo of my back view to show me. Staff were friendly at checkout.

If I could do no stars I would. Went and in farmers in the beauty section, identified a previous issue (reaction) and got told people in my position purchased a product by Ordinary. Nothing Ordinary about it. Overnight amassive reaction. , eyes all puffed up, and many medications later to address and assist in fixing, let alone taking accountability of their staffs reckless advice and recommendation… even though they had a record of my meds and staff saw the reaction… never never again would I or recommend anyone taking their lack of educated advice. Very disappointing

I’ve attended this cinema a few times since I’ve moved here, I’ve found sometimes it to understaffed to check toliets let alone restock towels or spot clean, bins are often overflowing. Staff have said in the past its been busy. Signs on the counter stated so this visit. Im not convinced. Have NEVER been here with over twenty seats sold.

This time it’s dirty around the carpet. TV signs are turned off. Out ice cream to sell! or large drink cups. The medium drink cup came over half filled with ice.

Was referred to the Cafe menu. No thanks it’s very basic to order enough stock especially over this holiday period. Not good enough! I won’t be bringing my business back here.

I’ll miss the comfy seating and the fantastic movies and the food delivered to your seat. Will anything change here?

New Zealand (Māori: Aotearoa [aɔˈtɛaɾɔa]) is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. It consists of two main landmasses—the North Island (Te Ika-a-Māui) and the South Island (Te Waipounamu)—and over 700 smaller islands. It is the sixth-largest island country by area and lies east of Australia across the Tasman Sea and south of the islands of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Tonga. The country's varied topography and sharp mountain peaks, including the Southern Alps, owe much to tectonic uplift and volcanic eruptions. New Zealand's capital city is Wellington, and its most populous city is Auckland.
The islands of New Zealand were the last large habitable land to be settled by humans. Between about 1280 and 1350, Polynesians began to settle in the islands and then developed a distinctive Māori culture. In 1642, the Dutch explorer Abel Tasman became the first European to sight and record New Zealand. In 1840, representatives of the United Kingdom and Māori chiefs signed the Treaty of Waitangi, which in its English version declared British sovereignty over the islands. In 1841, New Zealand became a colony within the British Empire. Subsequently, a series of conflicts between the colonial government and Māori tribes resulted in the alienation and confiscation of large amounts of Māori land. New Zealand became a dominion in 1907; it gained full statutory independence in 1947, retaining the monarch as head of state. Today, the majority of New Zealand's population of 5.25 million is of European descent; the indigenous Māori are the largest minority, followed by Asians and Pacific Islanders. Reflecting this, New Zealand's culture is mainly derived from Māori and early British settlers, with recent broadening of culture arising from increased immigration. The official languages are English, Māori, and New Zealand Sign Language, with the local dialect of English being dominant.
A developed country, it was the first to introduce a minimum wage, and the first to give women the right to vote. It ranks very highly in international measures of quality of life, human rights, and it has low levels of perceived corruption. It retains visible levels of inequality, having structural disparities between its Māori and European populations. New Zealand underwent major economic changes during the 1980s, which transformed it from a protectionist to a liberalised free-trade economy. The service sector dominates the national economy, followed by the industrial sector, and agriculture; international tourism is also a significant source of revenue.
Nationally, legislative authority is vested in an elected, unicameral Parliament, while executive political power is exercised by the Government, led by the prime minister, currently Christopher Luxon. Charles III is the country's king and is represented by the governor-general. In addition, New Zealand is organised into 11 regional councils and 67 territorial authorities for local government purposes. The Realm of New Zealand also includes Tokelau (a dependent territory); the Cook Islands and Niue (self-governing states in free association with New Zealand); and the Ross Dependency, which is New Zealand's territorial claim in Antarctica.
New Zealand is a member of the United Nations, Commonwealth of Nations, ANZUS, UKUSA, OECD, ASEAN Plus Six, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, the Pacific Community and the Pacific Islands Forum. It enjoys particularly close relations with the United States and is one of its major non-NATO allies; the United Kingdom; and with Australia, with a shared "Trans-Tasman" identity between the two countries.

Not what I expected. The staff were lovely and helpful, however when I walked into a massive empty room with a large reception desk and a table with a few brochures I thought I was in the reception of a fancy Hotel. I went in to get a simple map of Hastings (street map) and the only ones available were the Wine & Food map and Trail map Hastings/Napier, which are good if that’s what your looking for, but I was after an actual map of Hastings that is accurate and shows all streets, parks & reserves (basically a big print out from google maps) I remember iSites having heaps of different maps, books, little souvenirs and pieces of local history. Pretty disappointed with the ‘upgrade’ to the Hastings iSite.

The staff was cheerful and so helpful in organising a bike route. They even rent bikes, so it was all easily sorted out. Friendlier people you cannot find.

Gorgeous park with plenty of space for dogs to run. I found a rock painted with maybe a cat and the name “Meg” on it the day I came here. I thought it was quite special, so I picked it up and brought it back to America with me. If anyone knows Meg, please let them know their rock is happily resting in Scottsdale Arizona and I’d happily send something from here as a special gift exchange.

Loved it. So many dogs and their people. I loved how the dogs were off their leads, but just doing their own thing. No fighting or incidents. Lots of trails to wander a long and river for the dogs to swim in

According to council regulations you can freedom camp in the car park for up to two nights. Excellent quiet place to park up especially when you don’t want your kiddos running to the ocean. Nice walking trails for a morning walk.

My experience while being a guest at Kennedy Park was not only a pleasant experience but also a very memorable one. When you arrive at the facility you are warmly greeted by the friendly staff but what got me was the immaculate way the grounds were maintained. The cleanliness of the room was also excellent. I also have young children and the facility caters for their needs. My children fully enjoyed the Play Park on-site. The heated pool and the games room was very entertaining. My children loved it which means that I do too. I will be back. Thank you kindly to the staff for their impeccable service and hospitality.

This was our first time camping and what a spot to pick for that. The reception people were lovely . The setup of the campsite is great. Powered site was a good size and luckily we were right by the kids playground and pool . The kitchen is really nice and clean and modern. Pool is great for kids as it’s not very deep .

I found the facilities to be well-maintained, especially the kitchen and showers, which were clean and tidy. However, the lawn area was very small with no views etc. It limited our options, particularly for those looking to set up anything beyond a small tent. I think families with kids would appreciate the setting, but others might find it less appealing.

I love staying at the holiday resort when I’m in Napier for work. Main reasons: most reasonable prices in that area, rooms are spacious, the location is great and the park has that real holiday atmosphere. So even though I’m only there on my work trips it feels like a little break from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Will definitely book in again next time I’m in the area. Thanks to all employees of the park making it an enjoyable stay.

Located directly on the beach this visitors center has friendly and helpful staff who can answer questions, provide directions and even help you book a tour last minute. Free maps and advice no matter whether your interest is cycling, wineries or exploring the art deco historic centre. Also free clean toilets right next door.
