How to Donate to an Op Shop in Australia

If you have items that you no longer need or want, donating them to an op shop (also known as an opportunity shop or thrift store) in Australia is a great way to give back to your community and support a good cause. Op shops are usually run by charities and rely on donations to fund their programs and services.

Here are some simple steps to donate to an op shop in Australia:

    • Sort through your items: Before donating, it’s important to go through your belongings and separate items that are in good condition and can be sold from those that are damaged or unsellable. Op shops prefer to receive clean, usable items that can be resold to generate income.
    • Find a nearby op shop: There are many op shops in Australia, often affiliated with well-known charities such as The Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul, and Red Cross. Use online directories or search engines to find the closest op shop to your location.
    • Check donation policy: Each op shop may have different donation policies, so it’s a good idea to check their website or contact them directly for guidelines on what they accept and any restrictions they may have.
    • Drop off your donation: Once you have sorted your items and selected the op shop you wish to donate to, simply take your donation directly to the op shop during their opening hours. Some op shops may also have donation bins or offer collection services, so be sure to check their website or call ahead if you need alternative options.
    • Get a receipt: If you would like a tax deduction for your donation, ask for a receipt from the op shop. Charitable donations are often tax-deductible in Australia, so be sure to keep the receipt for your records when filing your tax return.

Donating to an op shop not only helps those in need but also supports initiatives that promote recycling, sustainability, and reducing waste. By giving your unwanted items a second life, you are contributing to a greener and more compassionate society.

Saturdays apparently they stay open til 4 if there are lots of customers in store so go check it out even if you think it’s shut. The donation centre round the back shuts at midday though so if you have a big load to drop off do it first thing. I always did like this Vinnies, unfortunately they’ve also started to suffer from the uptake in prices as most Vinnies have in recent years. They still have weekly discounts on their rotating ticket colours though. I don’t come as often as I used to. But everyone who works there is lovely, and there’s so much to see. Great now they’ve extended the shop to the back. Lots of treasures to sift through. Just found a nice leather vest for $20, which is fine, but still felt like a luxury price for unwanted goods… Only walked out of there with that as I couldn’t also justify $25 for a pair of pants. almost $50 for just two items? :/ also saw $100 on a vtg wedding dress that said on the ticket ‘needs a dry clean’ lol! and $30 on a childrens sweater, even though it stated on the tag ‘damaged’. It’s just hit or miss. You can come out with maybe one or two good treasures within a reasonable budget.

Laughable ripoff prices.. saw shoes @$40 and jackets @$50.. centre of charity it is not. Who in need of charity can actually afford this?

Tips for First-Time Op Shop Visitors in Australia

Op shops, short for opportunity shops, are second-hand stores where you can find a wide variety of pre-loved and often unique items. It is a great way to support a charitable organization while also snagging some great bargains. If you are a first-time op shop visitor in Australia, here are some tips to help make your experience enjoyable and successful.

    • Research the op shops in your area: Before heading out, do some research on the op shops in your vicinity. Look for ones that align with your interests and are known for having a good selection of items.
    • Set a budget: It can be easy to get carried away with the low prices, so it is important to set a budget beforehand. This will help you avoid overspending and ensure you are getting the best value for your money.
    • Bring cash: While some op shops do accept cards, it is always a good idea to bring cash with you, as it may be the only payment option available.
    • Check for sale days: Many op shops have designated sale days where you can find even better deals. These days can vary, so it is worth checking if there are any upcoming sales before your visit.
    • Dress comfortably: Op shopping can be a bit of a treasure hunt, so it is important to dress comfortably. Opt for casual and easy-to-move-in clothing, as you may be spending a lot of time browsing through the racks.
    • Inspect items thoroughly: Since op shops sell pre-loved items, it is important to inspect items thoroughly before purchasing. Look for any damages or defects and consider if they can be repaired. Only buy items that you are confident will be useful or enjoyable to you.
    • Be open-minded: Op shops offer a wide variety of items, so try to keep an open mind and be willing to explore different sections. You might be surprised at the gems you find in unexpected places.
    • Donate or volunteer: If you have items that you no longer need or want, consider donating them to an op shop. It is a great way to give back and support the community. Additionally, if you enjoy your op shop experience, you might even consider volunteering at one.

      5-star charity shop

From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the staff, who were more than happy to help me find exactly what I needed. The shop was well-organized with a wide range of items at great prices.

What impressed me the most was the quality of the items – everything was in excellent condition, despite being second-hand. I was able to find some amazing pieces Overall, I highly recommend this 5-star charity shop to anyone looking for high-quality items, great prices, and a wonderful shopping experience. The staff’s kindness and the quality of items truly set this shop apart from others. I will be returning in the future!

How to Donate to an Op Shop in Australia

Donating to an op shop (short for “opportunity shop”) is a great way to declutter your home and support a charitable cause at the same time. Op shops are non-profit organizations that sell second-hand and donated goods to raise funds for a variety of social and community programs. If you’re looking to donate to an op shop in Australia, here’s how you can do it:

    • Find a nearby op shop: Look for op shops in your local area or use online directories to find the ones closest to you. There are various op shop chains in Australia, such as Vinnies, Salvos Stores, and Lifeline, but there are also smaller independent op shops you can support.
    • Check donation guidelines: Before donating, it’s important to check the op shop’s website or contact them directly to find out what items they accept and any specific guidelines they may have. Some op shops may not accept certain items due to limited storage space or other reasons.
    • Gather your donations: Once you know what items are accepted, gather the items you want to donate. These can include clothing, shoes, accessories, homewares, books, toys, furniture, and electronics. Make sure the items are clean, in good condition, and not damaged.
    • Choose a drop-off location: Most op shops have designated drop-off points where you can bring your donations. These can be the op shop itself, donation bins located in certain areas, or even special events where they collect donations. You can find the drop-off locations and timings on the op shop’s website or by contacting them.
    • Deliver your donations: Pack your donations in bags or boxes, making sure they are secure and won’t be damaged during transportation. Take them to the chosen drop-off location during the specified times. If you have larger items such as furniture, you may need to arrange for a pick-up service if it’s offered by the op shop.
    • Get a receipt: Some op shops provide donation receipts that you can use for tax deductions. Ask for a receipt when dropping off your donations, as this will allow you to claim a deduction for the value of your donated items on your tax return. Keep the receipt for record-keeping purposes.

Ever since its store ‘upgrade’ it has become rubbish. Nothing interesting in there anymore half the stuff that used to be in it.

Tring to be to fancy now, it is so disappointing what ot has become, a shell of what it used to be.

The prices have also become ridiculous. It is more of a business now that a charity shop.

I love the new location and the range in this store! I’ve scored many a bargain at the old and the new location. The new shop however has much more room!

Now for what I came for…. I just joined google mail so I could leave this review to support the wonderful staff (who I believe volunteer their time) there as I am a bit perplexed as to why people would give a negative review about the store because they try to get a decent price for their stock.

The idea of running a charity shop like this would surely be to get the most money for the chosen cause, so saying that the shop should be cheaper and the concept of essentially giving away stock because they got it for free is not only ridiculous but counter productive.

I use to work a few doors down from this store and would see the overpriced second-hand goods in the display windows. I would often shake my head at the asking price for used goods at this store… it’s distasteful to ask for so much for something you received for free. I thought perhaps its better instore… No, it wasn’t. The whole point of the store’s existence is to collect unwanted good and sell it back to the public that can’t afford to buy new. Instead, you sell some items at ‘as new’ prices. You should be ashamed at yourselves. You want to help the community. Introduce the ‘fill the bag’ with clothes for $20.00 dollars. Or something that would help those on a small budget.

And yes, I acknowledge that there are people who are looking for antique bargains, well they aren’t going to find it in your shop! You rob these people of the joy of finding a treasure. You aren’t actually being ripped off if you sell a potential antique, item for less than it’s possible worth BECAUSE YOU GOT IT FOR FREE. Here’s a suggestion, the more stock you move the more money you make!

In my opinion they are quite overpriced. It put me off purchasing anything. Quite a few items were priced more than brand new. LP Records were $5-25 where all all the other stores charge $1-2 for the exact same LP’s. Even heard the lady joke about how heavy handed she is with pricing and thinks she doing great. I spent $0 there, where as I had just spend on average of $40 at the previous 2 Op Shops I had just been to. Store had a good selection and staff seemed nice even though I didn’t interact with them.

What to Consider When Visiting an Op Shop in Central Coast

TNC Op Shop in Central Coast
TNC Op Shop in Central Coast

When going to a thrift store in Australia, there are several factors to consider to ensure a successful and enjoyable shopping experience. These include:

    • Location: Research and choose a thrift store that is conveniently located for you. Consider factors such as proximity, parking availability, and ease of access.
    • Store Reputation: Look for thrift stores that have positive reviews and a good reputation. This will increase your chances of finding high-quality items and a well-organized store.
    • Opening Hours: Check the store’s opening hours to ensure that they align with your schedule. Some thrift stores only operate for a few hours or specific days of the week.
    • Donation Policies: Find out if the thrift store accepts donations and what their policies are. Knowing what items they accept and their condition requirements can help you determine if you have items to donate as well.
    • Price Range: Have a budget in mind and consider the thrift store’s price range. While thrift stores generally offer affordable prices, some may be more expensive than others.
    • Payment Options: Check what payment options the store accepts. Most thrift stores accept cash, but some may also accept card payments.
    • Special Sales and Discounts: Keep an eye out for special sales and discount events. Many thrift stores offer regular promotions that can help you save even more money.
    • Seasonal Items: Consider the season when planning your thrift store visit. Thrift stores often have seasonal items available, such as winter clothing in colder months or beach gear in summer.
    • Store Layout: Once inside the thrift store, take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the layout. This can help you navigate the store more easily and find the items you are looking for.
    • Inspect Items: When browsing through items, it’s important to thoroughly inspect them for any damages or defects. While thrift stores generally check items before putting them out for sale, it’s always good to double-check.

By considering these factors when going to a thrift store in Australia, you can enhance your shopping experience and increase your chances of finding unique and affordable items.

Staff are quite welcoming when you come in, but some aren’t very friendly if you ask about certain items. I was in with my nan and they were a little rude When she enquired about some items and if anymore would be put out. Other wise the store is clean, fairly decent items throughout the store.

How to Donate to an Op Shop in Australia

Op shops, short for “opportunity shops,” are a popular choice for those who want to donate their second-hand items in Australia. These shops sell donated goods, with the proceeds usually going to charitable causes. If you are interested in donating to an op shop in Australia, here’s how you can do it:

    • Find a local op shop: Start by researching op shops in your area. Look for ones that are conveniently located and support causes you care about.
    • Gather your items: Sort through your belongings and gather the items you no longer need or want. Make sure these items are in good condition and can still be used or sold.
    • Check donation guidelines: Before dropping off your donation, check the op shop’s website or contact them to see if they have any specific guidelines or restrictions on the items they accept. Some op shops may not accept certain items like electronics or furniture.
    • Clean and package your items: Clean the items you’re donating and package them neatly. This will make it easier for the op shop volunteers to sort and sell your items.
    • Deliver your donation: Take your donation to the op shop during their operating hours. Many op shops have designated drop-off points where you can leave your items.
    • Consider gift aid: Some op shops have gift aid programs where you can opt to donate the proceeds from the sale of your items directly to the charity they support. Check if this is an option and consider it.

By donating to an op shop, you are not only decluttering your home but also helping a charitable cause at the same time. It’s a win-win situation for all involved!

You wouldn’t believe this was a thrift store from the prices, stores and store managers that create store prices like this, add to pollution and keep inaccessible clothing and items to the richer class, instead of giving the SECOND HAND item a chance, to be owned by someone of lower economic position, you put it right back into the hands of people who can afford it to begin with. 45$ for a pair of heavily scuffed shoes? They will go to Kmart and get a pair for 20$- congratulations vinnies manager you have successfully added to the overproduction and over value of todays basic necessities.

This vintage store is well stocked with something for everyone. It’s clean & organised, but the floor plan feels off. The long rows of clothes feel overwhelming. Perhaps if the clothes were laid out on smaller, circular racks. Nevertheless, the pricing is standard & affordable.

one of the best vinnies in sydney, actually has good stuff. but the prices, its like its not even a second-hand thrift store. why so expensive? you are a thrift store, price like one. are you not meant to be helping people? shame on you.

As locals we’ve seen how this shop has gone to 5 stars to 2 in the last few months (to be generous). Honestly prices are through the roof (even at very poor conditions) which just does not make sense for second hand items. We love op shopping and do it every week, however we stopped visiting this store/donating here as prices keep increasing and items are on the shelves for months which makes the op experience so boring. Extremely disappointed…

You’ll find something great here if you look for it and it’s never that expensive either.

The staff have always been friendly and helpful. There is a mishmash collection of books that mostly contains crime, thrillers and pulp fiction.

I usually drop off my old clothes and items I’ve outgrown inside at the end of the store.

Next to Australian Red Cross. Close to bus stop. Good quality clothes. Staffs are friendly.

Choose carefully as I bought a ring with one side of small glass missing. It costs $4 and I am not going to wear it.

Small belt is $14, just because it is a popular brand and made in USA. The belt has been damaged by a few unprofessional adjustments of previous owner.

Work shirt is $15. New pants are $20. Some others are $10.

They are not cheap, so choose carefully.

When going to the barbershop in Australia, there are several important things to consider. These factors can ensure that you have a positive and satisfying experience.

    • Type of barbershop: The first thing to consider is the type of barbershop you want to visit. There are different types of barbershops, ranging from traditional barbershops to modern salons. Traditional barbershops typically offer classic haircuts and straight razor shaves, while modern salons may provide a wide range of services including haircuts, styling, coloring, and more.
    • Reputation and reviews: It is crucial to research the reputation and reviews of the barbershop before making an appointment. Look for customer feedback and online reviews to get an idea of the quality of service provided by the barbershop. This can help you choose a trustworthy and skilled barber.
    • Cleanliness and hygiene: Cleanliness and hygiene are vital factors to consider when choosing a barbershop. Ensure that the barbershop maintains high cleanliness standards, such as regular sanitization of tools and equipment, clean workstations, and usage of disposable materials wherever necessary.
    • Barber’s experience and expertise: The experience and expertise of the barber are significant factors that can influence your haircut. Look for barbers who have extensive experience in the specific style or type of haircut you desire. You can also ask for recommendations or portfolio pictures to get an idea of the barber’s skills.
    • Services and pricing: Evaluate the range of services offered by the barbershop and ensure that they align with your needs. Additionally, consider the pricing of the services and whether they fit within your budget. Some barbershops may offer package deals or discounts, so it’s worth inquiring about any special offers.
    • Location and accessibility: The location and accessibility of the barbershop are important factors to consider for convenience. Choose a barbershop that is easily accessible, whether by public transport or car. It’s also beneficial to consider parking availability if you plan to drive.
    • Appointment availability: Check the availability of appointments at the barbershop. Some barbershops may be in high demand and require advance booking, while others may accept walk-ins. Determine your preference and schedule accordingly.

By considering these factors, you can make an informed decision when choosing a barbershop in Australia. This will help ensure that you receive the desired haircut and have a pleasant experience.

Honestly so disappointed, the past 3 times I have gone here I have had the 3 worst hair cuts of my life all because of the one bloke that has cut it each time, he doesn’t listen to what you ask and goes on to doing his own thing, I asked for barely any off the top and now I have barely anything left, I asked for a taper fade and all I got was the sides of my hair completely cut off. Listen to your customers, they ask what they want and you end up doing what you want and completely rush it. This place is going to lose so many customers…

They try and come off as some cool place … how about listening to what your customers want first !!!

I recently took my 1-year-old son to Barbers on Murray for his first haircut, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. The patience and care that the staff showed with my little one (and his two older siblings who were also in tow) were truly exceptional. The team was friendly, professional, and made the whole process as stress-free as possible. The salon itself was clean, comfortable, and welcoming, and my son came out looking like a rock star. I can’t recommend Barbers on Murray highly enough – if you’re looking for a great haircutting experience for your child (or yourself!), this is the place to go.
