Pros and Cons of Shopping at Woolworth

    Woolworths Supermarkets In Melbourne
    Woolworths Supermarkets in Melbourne

Woolworths and traditional markets both offer different shopping experiences that cater to different needs and preferences. Here are some pros and cons to consider when choosing between the two:

    Woolworth:

    • Pros:
    • – Convenience: Woolworths stores are typically located in easily accessible areas, making it convenient for shoppers to visit.
    • – Wide variety: Woolworths offers a wide range of products, including groceries, clothing, household items, and electronics, providing shoppers with one-stop shopping convenience.
    • – Quality assurance: Woolworths often offers branded products, ensuring a certain level of quality for shoppers.
    • – Online shopping: Woolworths also provides the option for shoppers to purchase items online and have them delivered to their doorstep, saving time and effort.
    • Cons:
    • – Higher prices: Compared to traditional markets, Woolworths products are generally priced higher due to factors such as branding and convenience.
    • – Limited bargaining: Shoppers may not have the opportunity to negotiate prices or bargain with sellers as they would in traditional markets.
    • – Less personal interaction: The shopping experience at Woolworths may lack the personal interaction and connection that can be found in traditional markets.

    Traditional market:

    • Pros:
    • – Lower prices: Traditional markets often offer products at lower prices compared to Woolworth, as they usually source directly from producers or wholesalers.
    • – Bargaining opportunities: Shoppers can negotiate prices or bargain with sellers, potentially obtaining better deals.
    • – Fresh and local products: Traditional markets are known for offering a variety of fresh and locally sourced products, allowing shoppers to support local businesses and enjoy a unique shopping experience.
    • – Personal interaction: Shoppers can directly communicate with sellers, forming connections and gaining insights about the products they are purchasing.
    • Cons:
    • – Limited variety: Traditional markets may have a limited range of products compared to larger stores like Woolworth.
    • – Inconvenience: Traditional markets are often located in specific areas, requiring shoppers to travel to reach them.
    • – Time-consuming: Shopping at traditional markets can be more time-consuming due to the need to visit multiple stalls or vendors to find everything on your shopping list.

Ultimately, the choice between Woolworths and traditional markets depends on personal preferences, budget, and shopping needs. While Woolworths offers convenience, a wide variety, and quality assurance, traditional markets provide lower prices, bargaining opportunities, fresh and local products, and personal interaction.

      I shopped on 21/05/23.
I saw the laundry liquid on sale which is 1/2 price, so I purchased one,
after paying for that, I checked the receipt shows I paid for original price.

Then I checked the shelf again, ane found that only the liquid with softener is on sale, others are not, but all the liquid is on the same shelf which says half price.
So I tried to find a staff to ask for refund, the lady told me I can only do exchange, cannot do refund, so even I replace to the discount one, I still need to purchase something to cover the rest of money.
I told her it’s because some workers put the item on wrong shelf with wrong price tag, then she blame on me it’s all my fault because I didn’t check the price tag and gave me attitude.
I felt like it’s kind of cheating on customer, and there’s no way that I cannot do the refund for this.

So this Woolworths is slightly different from most, it’s elevated on one side that you can access through a lift and stairs whilst on the other it’s connected to a small food court on ground level. It’s fairly similar to your standard Woolworths in terms or what they stock. It doesn’t have that many check outs by staff any more, it’s just all self check outs now.

Honestly, this is the worst Woolworths I’ve seen in years. I can’t even calculate the number of times we had to go back to replace rotten fruits, mouldy berries, or veggies; you don’t want to see their “fresh” produce shelf by the end of the day – it should go straight to the bin by the look of it, not to be sold at full price. But as they are the only shop in Victoria Harbour, I guess there is no motivation to do any better. So disappointing.

Great location as it’s very near my house. The customer service has increased a lot, especially in Deli. They always seem friendly and approachable. However, I noticed there are several things that could be improved.
      • Long wait, either in checkout or deli, due to limited staff I believe
      • Cages blocking pathway, and being left unattended
      • Presentation in deli, such as dry meat, marina mix looks unattractive (other Woolworths have salmon pieces in it), and often empty stocks

Not one of their better stores. Not a single trolley available yet again. One guy alone to serve the whole of the deli and seafood counter.

I think now Woolworths has to have the best customer service out of the two Giants Coles and Woolworths at least you can get a checkout quickly and not have to work for the company for free the check yourself out which also takes jobs away from people it’s expensive as his Coles and I think they could look at reducing their profits and reducing their prices that would help inflation of course pigs would fly before any of that happened

Tried to scan my Woolworths rewards card and it came up on the screen that it had registered on that sale, but when I got my receipt it showed that it hadn’t registered my card. The person at the front counter couldn’t have been less helpful and his manager was even more blasé about the whole thing. Said they couldn’t do anything even though around 6 months ago when this happened again the manager on duty then was able to credit me back the lost points on the spot. Seriously Woolworths have made so much profit, using inflation as in excuse for raising prices constantly they could invest more in customer service training for their staff. Absolutely disgraceful service.

Big, bright, nice and has a huge range of products. Fresh fruit and vegetables but it is becoming so expensive not just lettuce other veggies as well. Location is good. Lots of parking spaces but the traffic flow can be very slow. There is a sushi bar where they make sushi and other Japanese food on the spot.
Didn’t have a good experience with click and collect as we have to wait for some half an hour, also sometimes they didn’t give the right product. Exchange is not a problem but troublesome that people have to come back for that.

Pick up order via click and collect straight to boot. It’s a good option to avoid crowded stores. Efficient and speedy. This is a pretty big supermarket with a huge range of products. There is also a sushi bar and roast chooks. Good selection in the deli and the seafood bar as well as the butcher. They even have kangaroo and venison meat, not just the standard beef, lamb, pork and chicken. Good fresh fruit and veg section as well as herbs.

The service is always friendly but sometimes slow during the busy periods more staff would be good especially for the front service desk. Worst experience ever! I had a basket and was ready to check out at the self checkout yesterday, and felt utterly disappointed at the staff there. There was a lovely lady in the self checkout I couldn’t catch her name I think it was something like Gloria? She did an amazing job trying to calm down the situation. Majority of the machines where not working and she was ringing the bell, no one came to assist her even tho she rang the bell multiple times, 10mins later one staff member who seemed to be supervisor I think her name badge said Bristy or Cristy either one, came in and berated her making it seem like she was at fault for not calling help, and then walked off shrugging her shoulders. How’s that for stupid behaviour. Then comes along another lady who might be a supervisor too she was tall and had long hair and a sour face , The self checkout staff signalled out to her and you wouldn’t believe what she did, she saw the signal from the staff member but ignored it and turned around to keep walking. Crazy! If this is how you treat your staff ,who are trying to help customers out, You have another thing coming for you! Absolutely atrocious. I will go to corporate if I need too , you are investing your money in the wrong people. Thank you Gloria for your lovely help yesterday. You handle the whole ordeal in the best way possible, you stayed calm and professional. For the other two staff members, I hope my children never have to work under you two. Absolutely atrocious behaviour!!!!!

I did my grocery shopping at this store last night. I went to the service desk to be served by a guy who was speaking to another customer the whole time he was serving me.
When I got home I noticed one of my products was missing. I called the store immediately and I mentioned this and they knew exactly what happened and told me to come into the store with my receipt.
Upon further inspection of my receipt after the call, I noticed that I was also double charged for another product.
The man who served me was distracted by his conversation with the customer and made two mistakes with my shopping and he had no greeting nor asked how I’d like to pay or anything which is unacceptable and is how mistakes happen.
I came back the next day and explained what happened to the nice lady at the service desk and got my missing product & a refund for the double charge.
Be wary and double-check that your items are all bagged & your receipt before heading home if you go to an assisted checkout. I wasted petrol and time coming back to have the issue fixed.
I’ll probably use self service next time; I usually choose to be served whenever I do a larger shop, but I think I’ve just lost trust.

I have complained in the past this is my 3 rd attempt to try and get Wolworths to take some sort of action in cleaning up the carpark of rubbish, looks like a s**t hole, plastics and detritus everywhere come on Woolworths lift your game we all have a duty of care for the enviroment.

Update, May 2023, Still looks like a tip, Woolworths just a huge corporate non caring about there stores, carpark and environment they have lost there way.

One star for the dirty presentation of the Woolworths precinct at Sandy Bay. Shopping there is pretty depressing because of the rubbish and leaves that are left for days to blow up into corners and accumulate around the place. It is surprising that Woolworths Management have no pride, nor consideration for its customers.
Even if the whole precinct is not the responsibility of Woolworths, you’d think that they would keep their immediate surrounds clean. (I have noticed this for a few years now, and finally getting around to posting something).

Sadly not a great experience at our last visit. We received a call to say our pre-ordered meat dept item was ready for pickup. Arrived within 15 mins of initial call and had to work through 4 levels of staff and all the bluster that entails to pick up a simple meat product. Lack of product knowledge was to blame, which means a lack of training.

I had a great (not) start to my shopping experience today, other than cutting open my finger whilst attempting to extricate some of the veggie bags. I had to ask for bandaids. Then I couldn’t find a product that was supposed to be in stock. 2 lovely employee ladies helped me with that. The final crowning jewel of the experience came at the non-self service check out. I was asked for bags and when I gave them to the employee she wouldn’t touch them. Why? They were not dirty. So I packed the bags myself while feeling very embarrassed and humiliated. Not a nice experience!

      That was 6 days ago.

Today, the same thing happened with the same check-out Woolies employee! What is going on? ?

      Disgusting.
Half a cooked chicken for $5.00
A Quarter cooked chicken for $5.00

That is so wrong and I spoke with manager about it and only got hollow empathy and patronising insults. Was also referred to by a worker as dearie multiple times after I asked her not too. A worker half my age. Seriously insulting but not half as bad as the chicken prices.
Worst is no one seems to care that this is wrong.

Pros and Cons of Shopping at Woolworth

Today shopping in Woolies at Pialba I noticed Cadbury’s chocolate was on special but couldn’t find the dark 70%. Initially I was going to climb the shelves because I am rather small and a lady shop assistant asked if she could help.
She looked and there were none on the shelves and she said ‘perhaps there’s some in health and beauty’ and off she went.
I was inpatient and grabbed Lindt instead and continued shopping.
I was about 4 aisles further along and a very tall young male shop assistant asked if I was looking for Old Gold 70%. He had a new box of Old Gold in his hands and I took 4 blocks.
What great customer service. Thank you both of you.

I waited in line for over 5 minutes while nobody served at the deli. They were four of them, all in their own worlds while talking to each other, while customers accumulated. I finally had to ask if any of them were servicing since I was first in line. And once said, she served a guy behind me. Not happy and all of those women who was in the deli on the 4th of June 2023 should be fired, due to their disrespect towards customers and they aren’t doing anything to make to Woolworths brand great. Will not be back. Go to urangan Woolworths cause at least they know decent and BASIC customer service.

I would like to start by saying that i have never had a problem with the staff or any drama with this store.
This woolies always seems to have a steady flow of customers, and can get way too buzy for my liking at times.
Which can also lead to noticeable shortages on occasions e.g. toilet paper, chips, bread, meat.
Not all the time but it is noticeable when it is happening and really is in my opinion just due to the large customer base this shop carries.
Which is a credit to the staff who are usually always available to assist with enquiries.

Not happy. Everytime I come to get Berlina from the deli:
      1.They either don’t have it.
      2. They won’t shave it because they “have just cleaned the slicer” – its 5pm and you close at 9pm…… why is the slicer an issue? – Which what made me write this review (I’m honestly sick of not being able to get it, I walk away 9 times out of 10 from this shop without it)
      3. There is no one with a certificate to slice……

Just a heads up to anyone looking to shop at Woolies in Eli Waters. They have revamped the store, and there’s NO express checkout anymore – forcing to wait in line if you want to keep people in jobs and not use the self serve which half time scan items with wrong prices. Too expensive compared with other stores it has a lot of low cost rentals in the area. It had been marked out as an exclusive suburb, but it’s not mostly rentals a lot of Spec homes built in the area.

Pros and Cons of Shopping at Woolworth

Woolworths and traditional markets both offer different shopping experiences that cater to different needs and preferences. Here are some pros and cons to consider when choosing between the two:

    Woolworth:

    Pros:

    • Convenience: Woolworths stores are typically located in easily accessible areas, making it convenient for shoppers to visit.
    • Wide variety: Woolworths offers a wide range of products, including groceries, clothing, household items, and electronics, providing shoppers with one-stop shopping convenience.
    • Quality assurance: Woolworths often offers branded products, ensuring a certain level of quality for shoppers.
    • Online shopping: Woolworths also provides the option for shoppers to purchase items online and have them delivered to their doorstep, saving time and effort.

    Cons:

    • Higher prices: Compared to traditional markets, Woolworths products are generally priced higher due to factors such as branding and convenience.
    • Limited bargaining: Shoppers may not have the opportunity to negotiate prices or bargain with sellers as they would in traditional markets.
    • Less personal interaction: The shopping experience at Woolworths may lack the personal interaction and connection that can be found in traditional markets.

    Traditional market:

    Pros:

    • Lower prices: Traditional markets often offer products at lower prices compared to Woolworth, as they usually source directly from producers or wholesalers.
    • Bargaining opportunities: Shoppers can negotiate prices or bargain with sellers, potentially obtaining better deals.
    • Fresh and local products: Traditional markets are known for offering a variety of fresh and locally sourced products, allowing shoppers to support local businesses and enjoy a unique shopping experience.
    • Personal interaction: Shoppers can directly communicate with sellers, forming connections and gaining insights about the products they are purchasing.

    Cons:

    • Limited variety: Traditional markets may have a limited range of products compared to larger stores like Woolworth.
    • Inconvenience: Traditional markets are often located in specific areas, requiring shoppers to travel to reach them.
    • Time-consuming: Shopping at traditional markets can be more time-consuming due to the need to visit multiple stalls or vendors to find everything on your shopping list.

Ultimately, the choice between Woolworths Adelaide and traditional markets depends on personal preferences, budget, and shopping needs. While Woolworths offers convenience, a wide variety, and quality assurance, traditional markets provide lower prices, bargaining opportunities, fresh and local products, and personal interaction.

It seems to be laid out in a very strange manner, unlike any other wooloworths i have been to. Also i found one of those pages that list where everything is, it said nuts were in an aisle, that me and who i was with then went and checked fully for a few minutes, could not find any, or see any staff that were available to help (it was pretty busy) so ended up going to coles.

It wasn’t a good experience going into Woolworths this morning as a stuff member was rude to me, and my friend in self-serve being judged and accused us of stealing when we paid for our stuff it’s just disgusting how we get treated if this happened again, I will be taking this to the manager. This person should be fired you don’t just judge someone just because we look young I was very upset when I left the shops today

You have a terrible manager who does not know anything about good customer service. Her way of dealing with customers was absolutely appalling.

A few months ago, I paid for 18 items in the express line. There were no customers waiting and 3 of your staff at the express check-out line were standing there, chatting. When I was at the check-out, the manager said that this is the express line, you have too many items. My response was that this express line did not specify the item limit. She insisted that this is the express line while checking out my shopping items and refused to tell me the item limit. I had about 18 items. She kept saying that this is the express line and I should not have used the express line. Her tone and attitude really irritated me. I wanted to drop everything and walk out. Since then, whenever I see her at the Marion store, I don’t do my shopping there even though I have boosted your offer.

I have seen others with full trolleys who were served at the express line and were not instructed to go to another line.

After visiting this store for 9 months with my 4 kilos puppy on my hands. Tonight I was not allowed to enter because of “so responsible” guy on entrance. unpredictable and inconsistent store. luckily there is another one in pacific fair. with no such a drama and no lottery on entry. will prefer to avoid the store where stinky drunk homeless are more welcomed than a small dog on hands.

the same sad story with my 4 kilos puppy on my hands again, now after one year of visiting it. This morning I was not allowed to enter because of “so responsible” old grumpy lady, who even jumped out of cashier to deliver her thoughts to me. Still unpredictable and inconsistent store. If your employees have some issues or childhood trauma about small pets, please put a reasonable visible sign on entrance. I can not rely on someone’s morning mood

Great little Woolies, doesn’t stock as much range as the larger woolies such as Pacific Fair but nearly always has at least 1 brand or type of whatever you need. Always well stocked and clean, can get pretty busy during peak times. Really good selection in the bakery department especially for a smaller store. Good fresh produce and meat departments, busy store so always refreshed with fresh stock

A good sized Woolies that has recently undergone a refurb throughout the store which now looks good. It has also had the new electronic ticketing system installed. There is also plenty of nearby parking available.

This one of my favourite woolies on the coast. It’s bigger than a lot of the others so commensurately has a larger product range too. There’s plenty of parking and it’s easy to get in to do your shopping. It’s in the kitchens precinct too so there’s plenty of good food, drinks and coffee nearby too which is another big plus

Pretty decent Woolies, compared to the one downstairs opposite end of the center it’s set out quite different. This one is good with everything you’d need. Great being close to all the kitchens restaurants.

Weekends they can run out of some veg so get in early. Mostly its stocked well.

Some of the staff on the tills are a bit green and need more training and or direction on bag packing.

If they don’t have a type or flavor of item in this Woolies, the Coles just down in the kitchens has it.

Pros and Cons of Shopping at Woolworth

Woolworths Canberra and traditional markets both offer different shopping experiences that cater to different needs and preferences.

Love going to Mawson woolworths. But honestly dread the checkout process. At least once every two weeks a service operator cannot reach items on conveyor belt and will pick up your items and drop in your bags. We end up packing all our items She is really unhappy and will tell you as such.
Shame on management for allowing this to continue.

Is it just me or are the shelves at Mawson Woolworths incredibly disorganised. I feel like I have to move the piles stuff around on the shelf, or in the fridges to find the thing I’m looking for. It’s like the groceries were just hastily dumped there. (Maybe I am just here after a busy night?!) there are also a whole bunch of products that are seemingly missing or unavailable. Sorry for the rant…..

The layout is hopeless. If you want something from one end only, but baskets and trolleys are at other end, you are forced to go to the other end to get a basket, and then walk to the other end to gather the goods you want. ?

They are so paranoid about security that they block off half access points, rather than installing security to monitor. Again, this is an inconvenience to honest customers. Please improve your access or a security person. Seriously, the convenience of this place is severely impacted by its layout and access. So disappointed by the ongoing changes.

I feel sorry for elderly or ppl with mobility problems. The store doesn’t deserve any stars, except for the staff who work their a** off to accommodate angry customers like me. Thank you staff!

A good fruit and vegetable section but stressful parking and make sure you have coins for the many charity people in the entry ?

A big thank you to the lady managing the milk section. I have been consistently purchasing Riverina milk for making coffee because it pairs perfectly with it, even better than other brands. However, when I went to the shelf, it was out of stock. I approached the lady next to me and she was incredibly kind. She went to the back to check the stock specifically for me. Initially, I was considering giving up and driving to another Woolworths, but to my surprise, she returned with a bottle of milk and asked if I needed more. This level of customer service is exceptional, and it has made me love coming to Woolworths for my regular purchases. This experience solidifies Woolworths as my preferred choice for future shopping trips as well!

Impeccable service in store and online. The latest online order was perfect, easy to order, long dates of meats, and easy pickup. The fellow that brought out the goods to my car wouldn’t let me help him pack, although it was dark, wintery and windy! I helped him anyway and he was most appreciative. Superb service. Thank you Majura Woolies (out near Canberra Airport).

Big woollies with all the expected departments. Quality seems pretty reasonable across the board.

I shop here regularly to pick up what I can’t get across at Costco.

Pretty good fresh fruit and veg section.

Update: still pretty good but not as good as it used to be. Store layout not as good, they have a booming delivery service so you have to dodge pickers trolleys and there is a lot of empty spaces on shelves.

      Good
-Wide enough passageway same as Gungalin branch.
      -Nice and clean.
-There is food court in front of Woolly.
-Ikea, airport, lolly pop indoor playground, coffee club, Toys R us, Burning warehouse, Big W and the cheapest gas station (Woolly Caltex)
-Small indoor playground and toilet nearby.

      Bad
      -Nil

I usually like going to the Airport Woolies at 7:30 pm to avoid the crowds and the parking lot chaos at Dickson. But the customer service at check out is appalling. Once again they refused to open a proper check out counter for a big cart of groceries. Instead they forced me into the “express” check out counter (which should be for less than 10 items) where I had to pile all my groceries into a 1 square foot counter. They always claim they are “short staffed”, or “it’s late”. But if the store is open, then customers paying $250 per week for groceries (that’s $13,000 per year) should be given a proper check out counter. My items were dropping on the floor because of the small counter. If I wanted to be given the steerage class treatment I would go to Aldi. In fact next time I will go to Aldi ! And Coles is opening a new store in Dickson, and I’ll be betting they provide a proper check out counter. Airport Woolies- you’ve lost a previously loyal customer.

Not as big as some of the newer stores but has a reasonable variety of products with comparative pricing. Staff are generally friendly and helpful. Has wheelchair access, although the carpark is not always ideal with fairly tight parking and often has large potholes in the entry driveway.

Great service, helpful and courteous. The boot to boot service is top notch and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. The trolley gentleman is always happy and the young man who also does the trolley service and boot to boot is an asset to Woolworths

Rude staff accusing me of stealing after going through self checkout as no actual staff attended checkouts open. After showing receipt and proving I didn’t steal anything I didn’t get as little as a sorry. If you don’t want to pay staff and have actual checkouts open the least you can do is have the single staff member that’s actually paying attention

Bought a pork shoulder roast and couldn’t be more disgusted with the quality of meat you sell. It was inedible . Rolled up mess and the bottom half didn’t even look like pork. Absolutely disgusting. Have shopped here for the last 4 years but after this and the fact your shelves are always empty and freezer section basically empty of stock for the last couple of years we will be finding a new place to shop.
